Some in my n-d church, myself included, speak in tongues on occasion. There was quite a heated conversation on my site's forums on this topic:

I've been to a number of non-denom churches over the span of a decade and have yet to encounter one that uses tongues.

I've been to many non-denom churches and have never encountered one that doesn't believe in speaking in tongues - however, at the last one that I attended before the one I'm in now, I never heard it done publically over the course of 4 years.

I must say, I've always associated nondenominational with charismatic, and I've been very surprised as I've encountered sooo many noncharismatic nondenominational Christians in this forum. I was doubly surprised when a moderator (though he's no longer a moderator) told me that because I was not a cessationist, I was therefore not nondenominational. That blew my little mind, and I stayed away from here until I saw that that moderator had stepped down.

Actually many of us are charismatic who do not believe the gift of tongues is being used properly today. Often, the churches I've seen that 'use' this gift go against what is in the Bible and teach very watered down "lukewarm" teachings at best. They tend to be Laodicean in nature.

The best thing anybody can do is to really pray that you not be deceived that that God show you His truth and only His truth. Honestly this is not a one time prayer. This is something you'll want with your whole being and will pray this almost without ceasing. I know I was amazed what God began showing me although it did take a few years and knocking me down many rungs so I could actually be open to learning.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES = IN A CHURCH SERVICE?

A Pastor friend of mine = had a "Praising Jesus" singing group = at their Church. I was asked to attend the Prayer Group – of the ministry group – that prayed before every service!

After 5 minutes, the PJ Group leader said, "I Cannot Understand – why we cannot pray in Tongues as we always do = before the Praise Service?

Little did he know, that someone in the Group = was praying Revelation 12:11 = during the time of Prayer!
Late I shared with the Pastor that I believe that some of that Hocus-Pocus = supposed HS Tongues = was in fact = Satanic Deception =or= just the Plain Prideful FLESH!

I suggested that 1Corinthians 14:4-to-33 Was not being OBEYED! Especially V26-to-29. This caused some confusion, for no one had suggested that before?

Simply I suggested, "Take A Tape Recorder = Record individual Tongues Proclamations = AND THEN = have those WHO HAVE THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION = ONE BY ONE = IN A CLOSED ROOM = INTERPRET THE TONGUE?

I ALSO ASKED HOW COME THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION = WAS MOSTLY IN THE KING JAMES VERSION OF THE BIBLE? He could not Answer!

This was done, and to the Pastors Amazement = Many who had the Supposed Gift of TONGUES = AND = THOSE THAT had the Supposed Gift of INTERPRETATION = left that church body = or = just kept their Mouths =QUIET!

The Pastor Left that Church for Another!

We had some Philippine people come to our church one morning.

They said they were going to sing a song in their own native language, and then sing it again in Engish.

They told us this because they didn't want us to think that "they were speaking in tongues"

Little did we know, that what we saw was speaking in tongues at it's finest.

So yeah, our church whitnessed speaking in tongues as the bible teaches.

As far as having someone bi-lingual that speaks the second language regulary? Nope, so I guess our church does'nt speak in tongues.

Hmm... I've always associated non-denom's with being charismatic.... I'm absolutely shocked that the majority aren't.... This is news to me...

My non-denom church does tongues, healings, prophecy, everything...

Nope. My church follows a fairly mainstream liturgy. On the Day of Pentecost, we will sometimes have people around the church speaking different languanges reading the story from Acts.

My church does not and I never have attended one that did. For taht matter I have never heard anyone speak in tongues before.

I've been a non-denominational Christian for 10 years and none of the non-den churches I have been to speak in tongues. The only charismatic church I've ever been to is the local Assemblies of God. However, I do know of ONE non-denominational church in my area that supposedly speaks in tongues. But in my area, that is the exception rather than the norm.

maybe i misread your thread..did you say that you escort the people out when they speak in tongues, if there is not an interpretor? then you go on to say that you believe you talk directly to God when you speak in tongues.......this was in response to alexeeah's post.
