One can start by thinking of all the things one did and said that hurt people. Next, one can think of all the things not done to help others.

As we begin to get an idea of how far we are from Christ-likeness, we can see our need to cry out for wisdom, immerse ourselves in God's word, and turn to prayer.

For me, what helps is to start by thinking about some really huge natural thing. It's best if it's something I can experience directly, but mental imagery can also work. For example: I live in the eastern US, so I'm near the Atlantic Ocean. When I stand in the water at the edge of the ocean, where the waves are so strong they knock you over, and I see the ocean extending out to the horizon, where it continues for more miles than I can truly imagine, I get a sense of the enormity and wonderfulness of the ocean. I can't control the ocean; the idea is laughable when I can't even stand up in its waves. It's so, so, huge.

The ocean is not God. God is bigger than the ocean. God made the ocean. And I am such a tiny, fragile thing by contrast.

You're not near the Atlantic, but maybe you can stand in the Pacific, or you've been in an earthquake, or you've experienced an immense storm. Or you can imagine our galaxy, though that's a bit abstract for humans to genuinely imagine. God is like that; except that God is much more than that, because God is so big and powerful that God made that.

That's my humility exercise.

Hello @StillGods, below are a couple of quotes for you to consider.

One thing to remember about humility (in general) is that it is the polar opposite of "pride" (like light is the opposite of darkness), so being humble before God requires little more of us than making a proper assessment of who we are, of who He is, and how utterly dependent upon Him we truly are (for EVERYTHING).

I think that one of the practical ways to begin to humble yourself before the Lord is to obey (as often throughout the day as possible) the commands that are found in the following passage (as doing so will help you put most things in their right perspective).

1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice always;
17 pray without ceasing;
18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus
.
Being humble before others is very important too. As the Bible tells us,

Philippians 2
3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

As far as testing yourself (to see where you are with humility), this (CF.com) is a GREAT place for doing just that ;)

Here is a famous quote about humility that I think is worth considering.

Lewis quote on humility.jpg

It seems to me that a practical way to go about doing this with God is to follow the wonderful command in the following verse, a command that comes with a wonderful promise attached to it from God, BTW :)

Psalms 37
4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
This is a great topic with many things to think about! Thank you for broaching it :)

God bless you!!

Think the main key is having the fear of the Lord It's loving Him, giving Him honor, respect, devotion, right worship, serving Him, following Him, being submitted and obeying His Word, His will.

Having the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, knowledge, instruction, and is the fountain of life (Pro 1:7, 9:10, 14:27).

- Having the fear of the Lord means we love what He loves and hates what He hates (Psa 97:10, Pro 6:16-19).

"The reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it rests satisfied; he cannot be visited with [actual] evil."(Pro 19:23).

including -
-- "...we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:" Heb 22:28 Having the fear of the Lord is the true and acceptable way of worshipping the Lord (Benson commentary).
- It "...prolongs one’s days..." (Pro 10:27).
- "In the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children shall always have a place of refuge." (Pro 14:26)
- It causes men to depart from evil (Pro 16:6),
- "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life." (Pro 22:4)
- "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant" (Psa 25).⁹
- How to have the fear of the Lord:" (Pro 2:1-5).
- teach children to have the fear of the Lord (Psa 34:11).
- Having the fear of the Lord is a treasure (Isa 33:6l, and
- churches walked in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:31).

Absolutely tturt. I was going to suggest studying what it means to have fear of the Lord, so in agreement here.

In a previous thread on the fear of the Lord, this was posted by HIM "There is a fear OF the Lord which He gives us and there is a fear of the Lord where we understand His righteousness and power."

This is signicant understanding when reading or studying this topic
