  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question...

A good friend of mine who happens to be aged in her early 20s will be celebrating her 3rd year in sobriety next week. I want to buy her something to mark her achievement but am at a loss as to know what to get.

I have a budget of around €/$50/£35.

Any suggestions would be most welcome...:)

What Sylver said. Even a nice houseplant to nurture if she has a green thumb.
Flowers are just the thing, with a card congratulating her. No Roses! You are in Ireland, correct? Just a nice fall arrangement

S.ilvio - a different thought

Does she by any chance wear a charm bracelet ? If so how about a charm in the shape of a '3' to celebrate her 3 years - every time she puts it on, it will remind her how hard she has worked and will encourage her to go on.

Or a little ornament - I've seen little candle holders [ not for cakes ;) ] in the form of numbers - again go for a 3

Or a little sliver trinket dish

It's been a real struggle for her to get to 3 years - it deserves a reward - a tangible one

Exactly what I was thinking, a pendant or such to commemorate her 3 years of sobriety.

There are a few places that specialise in personalisable presents...darn, none of their names coming to mind, but you could probably find one with an internet search. Maybe looking around one of these site's wares could give you ideas?

If all else fails...Everyone loves cake, right? Personalised or not.
