• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Yes, it is also my experience that it can. For me, this has happened twice. It's like one day, no matter how tough your life may seem at the moment or how much darkness, stress, anger, etc. you are dealing with, you still feel like the self you recognize. Then the OCD hits and it's as if everything that came before is immediately cut off and you are another person, living another interior life and you no longer recognize the person you've become. You can remember how you were before (your feelings, opinions, beliefs, etc.), but you can no longer seem to access that person. It's like you have to make an intentional effort to be yourself based on those memories because it no longer feels natural or simply taken for granted. It completely interrupts your sense of personal continuity.

Yes Ghackman described it perfectly. I just recently came through an OCD cycle just as you described during to first 4 months of this year. It is crazy and scary. But at the end of the day it's not real. It's all in the head. It just likes to make you think and feel as if it was real. OCD is an illness it's not who we really are at the depth of our person. But we can successfully manage the symptoms as we learn new normal patterns of thinking.
