Zeph 1:8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

Interesting . . . . would that mean that God wants us to dress like first century jews in robes and sandles and no underwear.

In Olive's defense, the post wasn't arguing what the 'strange apparel' was - just that it speaks of clothing that represented something God will judge. (whatever it might be).

It probably was something to do w/ paganism of some sort that was known as strange in their day?
I'd need to study more to know & maybe check out some ancient custom books.

I'm not sure what all that verse meant, honestly. I haven't studied it before, but when it turned up on the search I thought I'd put it out there.

There is so much we'll never understand fully about God...

I personally don't think the Bible indicates Christians ought to be in a costume/uniform, but there are some principles of modesty (both as not being too expensive and as not being indecent), concern for our brother, concern for our Lord's image, and seperation from the world. I try to err on the side of caution, but there are still some who say I don't dress appropriately.

Personal standards vary, but that doesn't mean God doesn't care.

'nuff said, I think. :)

God does care. And He doesn't care.

He doesn't care if you can't afford the finery that some can. He loves you exactly as you are. At our church, we make it a point that if we dress to cover ourselves properly, when we come together in the sight of God, then it doesn't matter how expensive or shabby the attire - what one can afford, and the ebst they can do is all that counts!

He does care if you choose to dress in a way that is inappropriate. Worldly people sometimes dress to thrill. They put on just enough that little is left to the imagination, and this provides a huge risk for temptation, a'la satan. Such people sometimes say, "I dress this way for myself." Huh? Whatever that means. Do not dress to please the world. Do not dress to please a worldly inclination. Dress to please God.

The best clothing are the robes that say: "Humbly, I serve you, Lord, and not the eyes of men."

Amen.
