• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a question for peoples..

If you where pregnant, and where given medication that could potentially harm the fetus (not in any way causing death, but more that the child would have withdrawl symptoms, possibly could have a seizure..etc)would you take the medication?

I'm asking because my OB put me on Zoloft for awhile (didn't tell me the potential risks) and my blood pressure sky-rocketed. Then he put me on Wellbutrin, but that could harm the fetus and makes me feel as if I'm alert, but very out of it at the same time.(again he didn't tell me that, which is why I've switched doctors)

I decided that I could not risk harming my baby simply to take a pill.

I'm more bi-polar than just having depression, but my depressive moods have been more frequent lately, and a friend of mine is also depressed and just had a baby, and she's really having problems now (post-partum depression, anxiety, hallucinations..etc), and I'm scared. I know I'm not her, but I'm worried about what's going to happen to me?

I intend to breastfeed and most of these medications will harm the baby through breastmilk....and I can't risk that, because even though my baby isn't born yet I love her/him more than anything.

What do I do now????!!!! :(

Zoloft can in some people be safe, but it has the same effect on the baby as Wellbutrin which is withdrawl symptoms things like that (though wellbutrin is the one that has more severe symptoms). In some people (such as myself)it can make your blood pressure go up really fast. My blood pressure is normally good and low, but mine went up to a level that would be considered "High blood pressure" in a matter of a week.

The dosage I was put on for both Zoloft and Wellbutrin was a pretty low dose from what I've read and been told...so I dunno.

It's a tough one...

I didn't take Celexa for anxiety while I was pregnant. But I feel like that was because people were praying for me & that the hormones leveled out in pregnancy. I actually felt more relaxed during pregnancy I chose not to take meds anymore. Uh I decided to take them again, bcause my panic returned months after birth.

Have you looked into Celexa. I don't THINK it is as risky as the older Zoloft:scratch:
I had a great OBGYN & he would tell me that the mother's stability was important & if taking a low dose med was needed he recommended it.
Have you read sites about meds & pregnancy? There is a site called motherisk or something of that nature.

I will pray for you...I KNOW that has to be tough:hug:

BTW..I know you want to breastfeed which is great. But if you need your meds & it will cause the baby problems perhaps you need to be considering yourself & health as well. Bcause once that little 'un arrives...you & your dh will be just trying to survive for the first 6mths :D Sleep deprivation is rough...I thanked God when my dd slept through the nite for the first time:thumbsup:
