Is it a sin to wear a Rosary. I realize if it's for vain reasons then yes it would be. But I feel highly compelled to wear one, but I've heard it's considered disrepectful? And I don't want to show disrespect or sin. Thanks for the help!
I hope you get much from the comments that were made here and I would encourage you to fill comfortable to wear items that are part of your spirituality. Don't worry about what others think and that is what I would say to a friend who is Jewish and wears the Star of David. Not really the same thing, I know, but I have a friend who wears a rosary everywhere she goes! You should wear your spirituality but let your heart profess it.

Wouldn't wearing a saint medal be just as ostintatious? I don't know of any other non-Catholics who wear them.

I know they make Rosary bracelets so why not wear one around your neck. You are doing it with your heart and I don't think it would be a sin. Just like people hang them on their rearview mirrors (I have one on mine!). They even now make an Auto-Rosary..I saw it at the Catholic gift shop last week...it has a decade and a cross and has a closure on it so you can put it on and take it off with ease and avoid ripping your mirror down in the process.

I'll never forget once my nephew got a ticket for having his Rosary on the mirror...the cop said it was an obscured view or something like that. I couldn't believe it!

Well considering other Christians don't really believe in praying to the Saints, that's probably why they don't wear them. It's very common though among Catholics... I have a blessed St. Francis medal that I either wear on my crucifix necklace or I keep in my wallet for safe keeping. And yes you can wear your rosary... I see nothing wrong with it. I read in one book though that it was wrong but only because if you see it as jewelery... it's not jewelery instead it should keep you focused on God. ^_^

Are wearing cross necklaces, earrings and rings among non-catholics ostentatious? I know many catholics and non catholics who wear them. Catholics however generally wear them close to the skin because they are blessed, not as jewelry.

Peace and God Bless

Actually I think it depends on personal preference and how you convey yourself through it. I used to go to nondenominational churches and the first person I met who wore a little emblem of a saint was at that church-- she said she deeply admired and respected the saint, but didn't pray to her. It wasn't like she went "HEY LOOK AT THIS!" but instead I noticed it and asked what it was because I thought it was a cameo.

I'm not Catholic and I wear a St. Christopher medal pretty much all the time and as soon as I can get one of St. Dymphna I'll be wearing that one as well. There aren't a whole lot of nonCatholics that wear saint medals, but we are out there.

I wear a miraculous medal, but I keep it under my clothes so that it can't be seen unless it falls out. What I meant was that a rosary is a bit more noticable around your neck than something small like a medal that is often mistaken for some sort of jewellery. (If you didn't mean wearing it around the neck sorry!)
As I said it may be a cultural thing, a sort of effort not to stand out or something.
