  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hookay...I've been thinking of transferring from Chicago State University to a college in Peoria, IL. or near Peoria, IL. (Normal/Bloomington...that is if I am not able to transfer my credits to Bradley). Bradley's a private college and the one I'm attending is a public college. Can someone tell me the difference between a public school and a private school and does some of those differences have to do with where they are located (near a busy street or quiet street, for example)?

I've heard of one in Normal called Illinois State University. I believe that Normal is about 30 min. or so from the Peoria, IL. area. And I'm sure that I'd have to raise my 2 point something GPA to attend a kind of college like Bradley, right?

I think that the main difference between a public school and a private school is where the school gets the bulk of its funding from - from the government or from private citizens/businesses. Private schools do not necessarily have to be better or quieter or anything like that. Some may indeed be, but not all are. I would go and visit whatever school it is you are thinking of transferring to, and talk with some people who already go there.

Private college get the majority of their funding from tuitions, grants and donations. Public colleges get the funding from the government. Many private colleges are accreditted, but not always. This means that their credits will transfer to other public colleges. Public college credits typically will transfer any where.

I think that adds to what's already been said.

fuzzyh and everyone basically all summed it up.

i have been to both a private college and a public university. both have their advantages. and yes, private colleges are typically more expensive but are the same tuition price no matter if you are in or out of state and they require higher GPA's USUALLY...
