  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm finally getting into listening to music, so, I need some advice first. If you're a Christian, what kind of music can you listen to and which ones should you not?

Should Christians listen to these bands?

-Green Day
-ACDC
-The White Stripes

Thanks, God Bless.

I am not a mod.
But might I make the suggestion to all that we do not turn this into another argument or jump on this kid's back

Welcome to CF Illusion.

If you are looking for a black and white answer for that, you won't get it.
First, you should respect the teachings and rules your parents may have on the matter.
I do not listen to music that directly mocks Christ. If you feel uncomfortable listening to those bands, then don't listen to them.
I suggest you ask this question to many people not just the Christians that do listen to secular music. Find out why some don't.
take care.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Personally I think your religion should not restrict your musical tastes at all. I am a Christian, a Goth and a DJ. I love music of all kinds but professionally I am renowned for DJing Goth, Punk and industrial music (although when booked for private parties I will play more or less any genre the host and his/her guests requires with the exception of dance, rave and most 1990s chart music).

Among bands I listen to are Inkubus Sukubus who are an overtly pagan act and Killing Miranda, the lead singer of whom professes to be a Satanist (Although with the exception of the song “Angle fly” any such sentiment is kept out of their music, of course their bassist is Catholic so there is an interesting religious tension in the group).

However, you may feel differently. Ask yourself so you like the music and do you feel overly uncomfortable listening to it, and make your choice from that.

I see no problem with any of the bands you mentioned, but ultimately the choice is yours. i would hate to see some one censoring their musical tastes on the grounds of their religion. I certainly don’t and most Christians i know don’t either. However since coming to CF I’ve discovered it is more common in the USA and certain other countries to do it. Again I stress the decision is yours, but my opinion is, listen to whatever you like and enjoy the music. Many people take music too seriously, when and if you let the music you listen to rule your life that is the only time to stop listening to it.

my religion doesn't affect anything i do, just don't run my life by it. Sure it affects my morals, which in turn affect my descisions, but i never ask myself if, as a christian i should be doing something or not. But thats another story.

I'm just saying, you probably shouldn't be asking questions like that, like what you like for the reasons you like. If someone tells you its wrong, its all opinion. Don't let someone else's opinion affect little stuff like favorite bands and such.

But to answer the other question, as a christian i listen to melodic death metal, black metal and power metal, but i'm also into Jazz, Funk, Classical, prog rock (and metal)bluegrass, and some classic rock.
