  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

12 stones is a christian band. people are giving them a hard time because their guitarist said one bad word, it wasn't even said in a bad way. Everyone sins, they shouldn't be singled out just cause they're famous.
As far as TFK and Pillar go, I've seen them both live in concert and there is no doubt that they're christian bands.
Also you don't have to be on a christian label to be a christian band. POD, switchfoot, blindside, stryper, and big dismal are all christian bands on non-christian labels.
Sometimes you'll also get bands like chevelle, who will use christian labels just cause it's the best deal that they can get at that point in their career and later on they'll prove not to be a christian band.

A band can contain Christians glorifying God and not be called a "Christian band". Such is the case with the bands OneManArmy mentioned.

Kutless, TFK, and Pillar all are very vocal about being Christians. And they are on a Christian record label as well(Tooth and Nail).

--edit-- err, seems I was wrong about them all being on the same label

The main difference in my mind is the label's that they are signed to.

Kutless - BEC Recordings (same as Jeremy Camp)
Pillar - Flicker Records (same as Audio Adrenaline)
Thousand Foot Krutch - Tooth And Nail
(these guys are the foremost band on Tooth And Nail's record)

Another difference would be the lyrics of their songs.

Pillar - Simply

You simply love
Despite all the stupid things I've done,
It's hard to remember
You simply love
Even though I know not I've done.

Kutless - Sea Of Faces

I am not just a man vastly lost in this world
Lost in a Sea of Faces
Your body's the bread, your blood is the wine
Because you traded your life for mine.

Thousand Foot Krutch - Everyone Like Me

This song's for everyone like me
Everyone not afraid to stand alone and lonely,
Can you identify with me?
This song's for everyone like you
Come and ride with me,
We will not back down.

Those factors prove it pretty well to me. I haven't listened to their new CD much but nothing caught my attention on 12 Stones' newest.

I'm not completely sure of 12 Stones, their 1st album was good and clean, but I hated their 2nd one, and once I noticed the language, that put me over the edge. If they want to go and minister to non-christians, more power to them! I bid them good luck, but I still don't know what to do with them.

So I just read where 12 Stones isn't 'offically' a christian band and their label isn't christian, yet Paul is a believer.
What about ..
Pillar?
Kutless?
Thousand Foot Krutch?
Not that I am going to stop listening, I am just curious.

Pillar, Kutless, and Thousand Foot Kruth ..yes all play to the Christian scene, are Christians themselves and are very proud [to say the least] about being Christians.

12 Stones doesn't want to be stuck playing in the Christian scene, they want to be in the mainstream. They believe that's what's best for them and their music.

i hope someday we stop worrying about other's spiritual life, and be more focused on our own and show love and grace to those that need God and to others that are in the faith.

i've seen that 12 stones are getting hype for that one bad they used in a good context. in my opinion, that is up to them what they are going to do. nothing i say is going to change a thing, and nothing that Christians are going to say is going to change a thing either. that is between them and God. plus, if we are all equal in the eyes of God, then why are we as Christians holding bands to a higher standard, when ourselves have the same responsibility as they do, to go out and make disciples. plus with the 12 stones issue, at least they said the exact word, instead of saying a substitute, which is the same thing. i get tired of people using substitute words so they don't fully use profanity. must make people's consciences feel better or something. as i grow a little older, i just don't understand things anymore, and sadly, i'm only 22, turning 23 in a few weeks.

as for the other bands, i think they are Christians, as well as 12 stones. and the whole issue of not wanting to just be only in the Chrisitian scene, i say, more power to them bands. at least they are actually making positive music for the people that actually need it, instead of only making music for the choir to say is good. just as long as they dont' use it to get into the music scene then i am in full support of Christians in a band with a secular label. it's the same thing as working at a job with your boss being a non-Christian. no difference in all reality. and for the only Christian scene bands, then i say more power to them too. they make worship music for Christians and them to praise God with, nothing wrong with that at all. i just think we have to realize that some people are good for certain scenes, and others are better in others. the difference is good.

plus, if we are all equal in the eyes of God, then why are we as Christians holding bands to a higher standard, when ourselves have the same responsibility as they do, to go out and make disciples

those that are in leadership and authority roles are held to higher standards by God. Christian bands represent christians because that is what a lot of people look to because they are easily seen

i get tired of people using substitute words so they don't fully use profanity

do you say man instead of da**. any word used instead of this word would be a substitute, so i guess we can't say anything.
