My dad has a .22 rifle from somewhere between 1911 (last patent date listed on the gun) and 1919 (when the manufacturer went out of business). I can't remember if it is a WFT or a W-T-F (without the dashes). The cartridges are larger than for a standard .22, but smaller than a magnum. If anyone could help me figure out if its supposed to be W-T-F or WFT it would be helpful. Also, where can someone purchase shells like that? They seem to be a rarity, or is my glaring lack of gun knowledge showing through again?

The only rimfire .22 cartridge that I know of that is smaller than a .22 mag and larger than a 22 long rifle is called the Winchester Rimfire which is abbreviated WRF. That might be the shell you are looking for they sell them here
