Now THERE's a game worth talking about. Incredibly deep game, and not only was it enjoyable, but you always came away from it with a slightly different perspective on life, I found. Lots of very cool stuff going on there.

Just started replaying it :D threw in a copy with my last amazon package as it was only £2.50.

Awesome, AWESOME game.

And damn, the Dream Twister still freaks me out even now.

The secret project videos and audio quotes were the best part of the game, and I was quite satisfied that they at least had Leonard Nimoy emulate the effect in Civilization IV. Of both game's strengths, the occasional human audio clip was an eerie relief from muted scores playing appropriately in the background. The only other game that had the same effect with sound that I can recall is Shadow of the Colossus: Alternating compositions with gentle and serene music while you wander the wasteland, thunderous crashes when fighting and no music at all during the sparse dialogue. There is not turn based strategy like Alpha Centauri though.

Oh yeah: Eat University researched anti-matter, Believer scum! Better morale won't save you from incineration at the subatomic level!

Hahahahaha I've always been more of a Morganite myself. Of course, when you rely on money to buy everything off those fanatical Believers can sure be a pain...

But it's worth it when you can afford to dominate an entire enemy without even going to war by mind-controlling his cities. Or when you can grab whichever secret project you want by hurrying them in a couple of turns ;)

EDIT: I also agree about the audio quotes. Really brought it to life, especially how most of them were voiced by the game's leaders, fleshing out each faction a lot.

Towards the end game phase, I often play around and construct hordes of singularity powered Planet Busters and distribute them to strategic island bases with the Gates. Playing Dr. No, I can ransom the world and destroy every faction (and virtually every landmass) with enough of them if they fail to pay their, "Insurance Money". To reclaim land, I simply rubber stamp the U.N. approval for the solar shades and repeat the process if neccessary.

Though early game, those technologies are both great for sales (or extortion) and allow for quick production of the big ticket items (tanks, ships and airplanes). I always shoot for the Weather Paradigm and Secrets of the Human Brain for a huge leap forward.

I can't believe I never played at harder difficulty levels before. I was Morgan on an isolated island, had a massive empire going, but not nearly as large as the Believers and Sparta. And eventually they just both declared war on me. Out of nowhere.

Then they repealed the UN Charter, so I figured I'd destroy a few inefficient bases I'd captured as a result of their failed invasion of my territory. They didn't respond too well to that - but what did they think was going to happen if they rolled back the UN Charter? :D

Your having doubts about it means it's definitely off limits. For something to be right, you have to be both sure about it and right about it. As it is, for all you know, you would be rebelling against God if you were to play the game. Therefore playing it would be crossing the line.

This is what I believe to be the best answer. It brings Philippians 2:12 to mind. I read this in the AMP the other day and it pretty much seals the deal when I'm unsure about something.

12Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, [a]with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ).

If you think it might, your best bet is to shrink away from it.

Of course, pray about and seek your own answers in the Word.

By the way I wanted to ask you.

If you are doing God's will with your job, then does that mean the athiests and the muslims are doing God's will?

Off-topic, and I believe the other topic is under staff review.

Capitalist scum!

You're distracting us with your banter so that you can further your expansionist policies on my solar arrays in the Pholus Ridge! In that event, I have already placed six divisions of silksteel sentinels to delay your feeble attempt at warfare and my hardened missile skimships will soon neutralize your supply lines. I may stay my hand if you offer me Ethical Calculus.

I play a lot of fighting games. There are characters of various good/evil alignments. Granted, there's very little story behind these games, and what little story there is, people don't pay attention to. But the alignments are still there.

What I look at is not good/evil, but simply movesets, tier lists, and comfort in playing the character when I start playing one in a certain fighting game. Everything else is just fluff to me.

In RPGs, there's a real fine line though. In games like Final Fantasy, I look at it like alternate realities, as though Square plays devil's advocate and says "What would happen in this world if..." If you started praying to Yevon because you saw it in Final Fantasy X, you'd probably get laughed at, committed, or (the worst, and sadly, most likely case) get a bunch of fanboys to join you.

Regardless, I don't look at video games as real life. Why?

Ah yes, but Big Bertha cannot beat the crawling bomb I have air dropped deep within your base. Unless you switch sides and join me in the destruction of ShaunJ's forces, I will force it to auto destruct!

Mwuahahahaha!

What, a Roach/Invader? Lol, I think I'll put my feet up, it's not like it's going anywhere fast :p
