My husband & I have been trying to find a good church after getting out of a dysfunctional WOF 4 yrs ago. I've been praying about it, but the only answer I seem to be getting is a weird feeling when I think of attending certain churches. Anyhow, we were going to attend this church nearby. It's a Cornerstone church. I went on their website and dug deep enough to see that they follow teachings of Vineyard. Isn't that the heresy movement where people were barking like dogs etc? I need guidance in this.

I haven't heard anything about Vineyard. I know they put out anointed worship music. It's awesome.
You guys ever think about going to a home church?
Thanks,

I love Vineyard.
Yeah, I know I am a Catholic but I have attended Vineyard when my son was attending there. I have a good friend who was pastor there. Also had friends in music ministry. They were pretty well balanced as far as I could see.

I didn't hear a single bark while I was at that fellowship.
Silly rabbit!

Vineyard, Assemblies of God, Four Square, Word of Faith have many similarities in their core beliefs, they are typically Pentecostal Charismatic.

You will find good and not so good in every one.

Calvary Chapel is "Charismatic" to the extent that they recognize the gifts, but tend to be a bit more conservative in their use.

Just going back and seeing your other posts - I might suggest you find a contemporary Baptist church. From my very limited knowledge of you, it seems to be the one that would suit you the best.

Though I could be completely wrong.

I attend a Vineyard. Love it.

In every group/denomination there's extremism that crosses over to heresy if you look long and deep enough.

I have never heard of Vineyard being heresy movement. In fact, I have always heard good things about them. I think you may have the Toronto thing mixed up with Vineyard. Vineyard broke off from that kind from the Toronto church. Toronto church changed their name from Vineyard to Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship. I am not saying they were heresy but I am saying that is the church noted for barking. I am not saying the barking was not of GOD either. Just trying to answer your question. I do have an opinion but I am not stating it here. SO many churches were asked to stop some behaviors or get rid of the Vineyard connection and they left the Vineyard connection. If you put it into your search engine and look up John Wimber you can find out for yourself. Personally I love Vineyard worship music. I am impressed with God using them and I am impressed with any church God uses but for a preference, it would be Vineyard for me too if there were one around here.

Thanks for your responses.

One more question... Are the Vineyard churches Word of Faith?
Depends on the individual leadership, but not usually.

The Calvary Chapel I went to gave lip service to the gifts of the Spirit, but in practice didn't really believe in them. Vineyard spun off of Calvary Chapel for that reason.

Regarding the barking thing. A minister told the story once that when she first heard of that she decided that this was not of god. She judged the church she heard it from as being totally off without asking god (not saying that's you - just her testimony). The lord rebuked her and guiged her to

Isaiah 56, 10 Israel's watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

and told her that the barking was a prophetic sign that the watchmen in god's kingdom are now awaken and active.

God bless you

We used to have a Vineyard pastor here in this forum, but alas, he's gone.

Yes, for a while *some* Vineyard churches got into wackiness. It's my understanding that the Vineyard as a whole has tightened up both their doctrine and their denominational oversight.

Vineyard is probably more "Charismatic" than "Pentecostal," and is generally not WoF.

Certiain Toronto Vineyard leaders put out formal public statements of apology.

Every fellowship morphs and grows, and each takes on its own character. I have seen churches defy their denominational beliefs.

If you are praying about where to go, God will lead you to a spot where you can be used and get some refreshment from what you'd been through. He knows the spots that can help fade the scars. There were places He sent me that didn't fit into my ideal, but I knew when I got there why I was there.

About Vineyard, it's definitely Charismatic, and some churches might lean toward WOF. I have heard some concern over pockets of questionable activity, usually no more than three churches in a region, and that is possible within any denomination.

The Calvary churches in my area are more staunch than crazy (or is that what you meant).... firm about how they stick to scriptures. With that in mind, walk through some doors and see what's going on, and mix that in with the information here.

I know some people who still visit the Toronto Airport churches for inspiration. But I still see a fascination with the gifts and manifestations... which can result in people's life needs being ignored because everyone is so caught up in worship. I am not informed enough to say if this has changed.

No - they have similarities, but are two distinctly different styles and beliefs on certain issues.

What are the similarities? :sigh:

1. Salvation by Grace
2. Baptism, both water and in the Holy Spirit.
3. Living righteously
4. The importance of the Word of God.

You can look at the doctrinal stances here:

Vineyard

and

Word of Faith

Just an FYI - I am a Word of Faith Pastor, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with a 'Word of Faith' church. Please know that just because someone calls themselves Word of Faith, what they preach and practice does not necessarily mean that ALL Word of Faith Ministers.

Yes, their are some in the Vineyard that support barking like dogs, gold dust etc.. That doesn't mean that ALL Vineyard preach, believe or practice that way.

I think when Jimbeaux comes back on, he would be a very good person for you to speak with about the Vineyard.
