  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i have a question!! i have an anterior placenta (my placent is in FRONT not in BACK. My question is this...right now my baby is breech..not that i am worried..i am only 22 weeks so there is plenty of time for her to turn...BUT incase it comes to that...i have read others mentioning crawling on hands and knees to get the baby to flip or to get the baby to move to a different position. If i go on hands and knees the baby is ON my placenta..is it wise to do the hands and knees with placenta in front?

It's ok to do the hands & knees and the cat stretch with an anterior placenta, don't worry. :) The baby is floating in the sac of waters, and doesn't lay directly on the placenta so there's no worries about the baby squishing the umbilical cord or anything.

The placenta can attach anywhere in the uterus... way at the top, anywhere on the sides... worse case scenario is covering the cervix, because that's an automatic c-section (and there is typically some bleeding during the pregnancy and required bedrest).

The placenta could have something to do with the baby being breech, or any other odd presentation. I had 2 pregnancies with anterior placentas, and both of those babies were posterior for the birth. I assumed the position of the placenta had nothing to do with it (at the time) but a couple of years ago I ran across an article on a midwifery site that suggested that the position of the placenta "could" affect the position of the baby. So, I guess it's something to watch and prepare for.

A good site for baby positioning is www.spinningbabies.com

When they do a scan, one of the important things is to locate the placenta.

Most pregnancies have a posterior placenta - but a few have an anterior one. For the vast majority of women, it is an insignificant detail.

There is some school of thought that the baby faces the placenta, therefore with an anterior placenta, the baby is going to be in a posterior presentation (back to back). Not sure how much truth there is in this given that there is so much movement.

Anecdotally, the only one of mine that was anterior placenta had a labour of 3 hours (my first) with no back pains.

Placenta position is one of those things where extra knowledge is just not helpful.
