  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm starting to wonder if parents are *really* supposed to be responsible for kids' actions anymore? In some places, at whatever age (before 18) we're told where they may be educated, how they may be disciplined, what vaccines they *must* have (in order for the educational avenue mentioned above). All this while they are being told how much freedom they should have to make choices about sex, clothes, hair, piercings, "body art", and even medical choices. If we are to be given no choices in these matters . . . how are we to be responsible for the behavior of our children?

Imo, we need the government to intrude into the lives of our children less, and influence our own children more . . .
Or, I guess we could just legally emancipate them at age 5 and let them do what they want?

LOL! I've been there with the frustration.

The answer is to go Against mainstream and do what YOU believe G-d wants you to do with your children, no matter how different it may seem to others around you. You can't please everyone, so pleasing G-d, whom you'll ultimately answer to, is the smartest way to go. ;)

lol, I agree. We're not really 'go with the flow'-ers. (not flowers, flow-ers lol!) In fact, hearing the words 'have to' and 'must' from the government basically makes my husband go, really? You just try and make me... lol.
God gave our children to US, and I can't in good concience let the government/society make all my decisions in child rearing... :)

I'm not really in danger of changing my mind because of what society wants . . . just incredibly frustrated at the "you have responsibility, but no authority" message sent to parents and caregivers:mad:

Yes I must admit I have noticed that sort of message being sent out too.

It is definitely tough. We get 20 questions every time we see a doctor just because our son always has a bruise or 2. I do not remember any part of my childhood that did not have bruises. Kids play, fall and get back up. Then they tell me how great these so-called vaccinations are and make kids stay in a car seat for way too long. Our son actually rarely uses a car seat, but that will change when we move back to America.
