does anyone know any genuine/good place where i can give "online" for tithing purposes? also, does giving to the poor count as tithing? how about other good causes like giving to promote medical research for diseases?

I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't seen the miracles after tithing. It's truly amazing. though sometimes it takes time to see changes, you always reap the benefits.

I think there will be mixed views about this, but my opinion is...

You should give at least some to your home church (or if you don't have one, you could donate to missionaries trying to raise enough to go somewhere (it seems it can be really costly), while looking for one... or hey, even giving some to this site). THEN you should give to the poor, help fund medical research, etc.

The way I see it is, if no one gives to their church or to missionaries or you get the idea, then there's no way for them to expand their reach and help spread the word to even more people - or in some cases, struggle with continuing to operate at all.

Hi,
There really isn't any legalism in tithing. I think the main rule for us as believers is to be a people of generosity. I believe tithing is good, however, because it was practised before the Law in the examples of Abraham and Jacob. Giving a tenth is more than about money; its about our heart attitude in how we view God. A quick look at our bank statements will reveal what we treasure most with our money.

Which is greater? To honor your parents or to tithe? I think the former is greater...so taking care of family is honorable to God. But if your family's needs are met, you should give something to your local church (perhaps half of ten percent), and perhaps something else to another organization that honors people, especially in presenting the Gospel and/or meeting people's needs. You should give something to your church as they don't operate without financial help. Where you are fed, you should give something.

In tithing, you are giving to GOD, not man... So if you chose to give to a homeless person, that would be honorable. I think, basicly, you have to follow your conscience in where to give.

And 10% is just a guide. If you are well blessed financially, give more. You'll find out how much more blessed it is to give, than to receive. A show here in UK is called Secret Millionaire. What was most revealing is that the ones most effected in that show were the millionaires themselves!! :) They were the ones crying... Their lives were most changed in the giving of money to help others. We should be the most generous people on earth because of what our Father has given to us!

Our Lord Jesus Christ's ministry was giving and looking after the needy.

If we are to be like HIM, then we do the same.

Tithing is Old Testament, and has nothing to do with believers, as the New Testament works on the basis of giving with a grateful heart.

Tithing is well documented in the OT, and there are no Levites in Christianity.

I give with a grateful heart, I give to charities, I support a child, and I give when I can.

But those who badger and berate HIS Children in regards to tithing and uses Malachi as the beating stick will answer to our Lord Jesus Christ when the time comes for false teaching.

Blessings.

Blessings.

Operation Blessing is part of the 700 Club ministry -- a combination of giving to the needy and to ministry. They are very organized and even deliver medical supplies and doctors overseas.

This CF site accepts donations (for-profit, I think) which get you a few perks.

I am going to PM you with a very specific one, if you don't mind. I am not directly connected with it, but know some of the people involved, and it's on a reputable site.

Another thing you might consider, if you don't have a direct ministry you're involved in: do you have friends who became missionaries, are starting Christian businesses, or need temporary help? You can give support, but also your time and expertise. This kind of activity isn't just a blessing to them, but promotes this kind of activity in the community. When people feel supported, they will be more eager to help others.

The original tithe was grain, which was the fruit of a farmer's labor. In a sense, it was a giving of their time and expertise as well as their produce.

I have donated to Operation Blessing for years - they put it to good use.

My tithing is helping others wherever I find the Lord leading me. I use to just write a check for 10% and put it in the plate - I felt that was not what I was suppose to do so I ask God to send those across my path that needs help - WOW - did He send them.

We have always found families that needed help and help them for sometimes years or whenever they can stand on their own. I have friends in dier need - I help them as much as possible.

I just give where God tells me to give - sometimes it may be less than 10% and most of the time it is way more than the 10%.

Just follow your heart as to what you should do.

I can think of thousands (well, maybe hundreds) of places to give, but this is one that has remained faithful, ethical, caring, spiritual and useful for decades. It has been an amazing plan.
I just give where God tells me to give
Yes, things always seem to come up that I want to give to. It's fun to know that a certain amount needs to be given away, because then it doesn't feel like someone is taking what was mine. It's just money designated to give away, and a lifestyle that I can look back on and feel good about having lived.

Even though using the money myself over the years would have been nice, I think the conviction about what I can look back on doing is so much more rewarding. All of us have contributed to some really interesting projects, organizations, revivals, hospitals, orphanages, single mother assistance... all sorts of things that give this messy world a little more hope.

I agree with Elijah2 in his comments on tithing. The Levite Priests were the only ones that could (according to the Law) receive tithes. Tithing was a way to stay righteous before God by keeping His Commandments, but now we are righteous through Jesus.

Also, tithing was a commandment of the Law which the gentiles had no part of:

Ephesians 2:11-12(Amplified Bible)

11)Therefore, remember that at one time you were Gentiles (heathens) in the flesh, called Uncircumcision by those who called themselves Circumcision, [itself a [a]mere mark] in the flesh made by human hands.

12)[Remember] that you were at that time separated (living apart) from Christ [excluded from all part in Him], utterly estranged and outlawed from the rights of Israel as a nation, and strangers with no share in the sacred compacts of the [Messianic] promise [with no knowledge of or right in God's agreements, His covenants]. And you had no hope (no promise); you were in the world without God.

In other words, God never told the gentiles to tithe. A new Testament Christian is supposed to give as he has purposed in his heart (whatever he decides to give) according to the need before him. We are supposed to give in order to help and not because some preacher says you'll be cursed if you don't give 10% in the offering and you'll be blessed if you do.

God loves a cheerful giver. but he knows your heart and if you are giving to help or if you're giving to get a reward of some kind (covetousness).

Blessings,
Alan

I have been tithing since 1976, and at times went beyond that to 15%, but always at least the tithe. As Seansaid in this thread, Abraham tithed, and that long before the Law. And, I don’t know of any Scripture that says that you don’t have to tithe.

But, that being said, as Christians, I think it is a real heat issue.
II Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
We have to decide in our heart what we want to give, and not give it grudgingly (with a heaviness), or of necessity (out of a law or constraint); God loves a cheerful giver. The only way you can give away your hard earned money cheerfully is if you understand God’s promise to bless you back.

After talking about how to give in verse 7, the Scripture in verse 8 then talks about the results from giving cheerfully.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
In the section in Philippians 4, Paul referred to it as “giving and receiving:"
Philippians 4:15
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
He goes on to tell them that he doesn’t want them to give just so that he can get a gift from them, but so that fruit may abound to their account; in other words receive back from God. As we give, we should expect to receive back from God.

By the way, I have some good articles on prosperity on my blog: Confidence And Joy.

God bless you.

Mike
