During the period before an elect person gets saved, how are they condemned already (for not believing) when their unbelief (which is a sin) has already been paid for by Christ on the cross?

I was recently asked this question and I don't know how to answer it cause well, I don't know the answer. This has always been a thing that I havn't understood. So could you people help make it understandable to me?

Hi littleapologist

have you considered our standing in Adam , we are condemned to die because of One man's sin .
So if we reject the good news our condemnation is added to !!

"Jn 3:19-AND THIS IS THE CONDEMNATION, THAT LIGHT IS COME INTO THE WORLD, AND MEN
LOVED DARKNESS RATHER THAN LIGHT, BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS WERE EVIL.

also , by nature we are , like others 'children of wrath' ......... but as regarding election we are Children of The Promise.... Loved from everlasting.

''there is Now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus'' Romans 8
meaning that in our Union with Christ we have already passed under condemnation , on The Cross. The Elect died with Christ.

even as one act of unrighteousness meant condemnation for all Adams offspring so one act of Obedience means aquital for all those in Christ.

There are at least TWO parts to our union with Christ .
1. Eternal Union , we were in Christ before the world was made.(think of Eve in Adam)
2. We enter into a Union with Christ when we are regenerated. (think of the marriage of Adam and Eve)

Well, I think I touched on the subject, but upon reading cygnusx1's answer, I'm more apt to believe that. I still think the word "condemnation" is best used in the sense of our ultimate state before God. Temporal and eternal language getting confused, I guess. Just make sure and be clear in your context.

Good Day Little

The elect are seen as saved out side of the limits of time, from the Father's point of view. Remember they are elected unto the believing ones, Is there any way an elect person could not belive? No!

The condemnation of the unbelieving ones are based on the fact that God expends no effort in thier regeneration, He knows that regeneration is not possible for them. Where as the elect are always regenerated according to the wil of God, in his view the elect are regenerated and thus saved in the present time of God because he sees things out side of "time".

Hope that helps,

Bill

Is there a chance that an elct person could die before he is regenerated by God?

Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels, did He say at any time, "Sit on My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool?"
Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation?

I believe this also includes to keeping them alive until the appointed time.

hmmn, well, you could say (if you'll excuse my thought) that an elect person must be dead before he is regenerated......
"and you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked" (the walking dead!!^_^ ), following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air.......but God, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, raised us up with Christ.....etc.."
