  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But if God cleaned up the mess as you said, how can we use the bible as a starting point?
Um ... is this a trick question?

How can we find anything when there is no trace of the global flood?
At the risk of sounding repetitive, I can picture scientists standing on top of white cliffs and wading in meandering streams, scratching their heads and saying, "No evidence here!"

When it comes to some things, scientists are fools.

As the saying goes: They that don't know the past are condemned to repeat it.

And that's just what scientists do: they snub their noses at the Bible, then repeat It.

I can picture scientists going out to hunt for Enoch ... can't you?

Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Scientist1: Look! His footprints suddenly end right here!
Scientist2: Alien abduction!
Scientist1: Call a Code Adam!
Internet Scientist: Last Thursdayism!

This however, is my favorite example of how scientists repeat history:

2 Kings 2:17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.

And they have the gall to call themselves "wise men" (Homo sapiens)?

Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Isn't that what scientists say the Bible says?
No, that's what some Bible believing people say. What the scientists say is that there are Bible believers who think the earth is flat because that is how they interpret the Bible. Then the scientists say the earth is not flat, therefore your interpretation is incorrect. Then it gets silly, and the scientists laugh.

"Religion clings to the mores; that which was is ancient and supposedly sacred. For this reason and no other, stone implements persisted long into the age of bronze and iron. This statement is of record: “And if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone, for, if you use your tools in making it, you have polluted it.” Even today, the Hindus kindle their altar fires by using a primitive fire drill. In the course of evolutionary religion, novelty has always been regarded as sacrilege. The sacrament must consist, not of new and manufactured food, but of the most primitive of viands: “The flesh roasted with fire and unleavened bread served with bitter herbs.” All types of social usage and even legal procedures cling to the old forms.

When modern man wonders at the presentation of so much in the scriptures of different religions that may be regarded as obscene, he should pause to consider that passing generations have feared to eliminate what their ancestors deemed to be holy and sacred. A great deal that one generation might look upon as obscene, preceding generations have considered a part of their accepted mores, even as approved religious rituals. A considerable amount of religious controversy has been occasioned by the never-ending attempts to reconcile olden but reprehensible practices with newly advanced reason, to find plausible theories in justification of creedal perpetuation of ancient and outworn customs.

But it is only foolish to attempt the too sudden acceleration of religious growth. A race or nation can only assimilate from any advanced religion that which is reasonably consistent and compatible with its current evolutionary status, plus its genius for adaptation. Social, climatic, political, and economic conditions are all influential in determining the course and progress of religious evolution. Social morality is not determined by religion, that is, by evolutionary religion; rather are the forms of religion dictated by the racial morality." Urantia Book, 1955

Emm, you do realize that science has a perfectly natural explanation of how the white cliffs were formed rite? ditto for meandering streams,....therefore no reason to resort to the Goddidit magic.

When it comes to some things, scientists are fools.

Ha! sure, but should scientist discover anything that is mention in the bible, they suddenly become geniuses with an IQ of 170 amirite? lolz

I really doubt it as scientists do not concern themselves with mythical beings...lolz

1 Chronicles 26:18 At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar.
2 Samuel 5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

AV probably has a bumper sticker that says....WWGKD?

What would Genghis Khan do? lMAO...
Technically, Genghis Khan is a title, not a name. It means "Great Khan" (or leader/ruler/king, it's not a term that neatly fits an English translation) the guy's actual name was "Temujin"

Rite.

"Formed" being the key word here ... right?

Not "swept up" ... "formed"?

That's what's confusing them: improper terminology.

No doubt whatsoever.

Exodus 7:22a And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments:

Anything God can explain, science can do the same ... (but they have to Arab phone it first).
JD16 said:

Magic?

I submit that's what's confusing you.

Try "miracles" -- it'll put it into perspective (assuming that's what you want).

Scientists who discover or confirm some easter egg that God put in nature are "blessed" IMO.

If they confirm an easter egg, but fail to give God the glory (as Hubble did with "discovering" the universe expanding), I feel sorry for them.

Word preferences say a lot about what people believe, don't they?

True Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

So your Chicago-based anonymous book quote does not apply.

Oh, dear!

Someone really needs to lurk here longer, doesn't he?

That mantra was obsoleted years ago and replaced with: GOD SAID IT, THAT SETTLES IT.

The 'I believe it' part was erased when people realized that whether you believe it or not makes no difference.

God said it; end of story.
