  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I just want to know what this verse means: "Now are we sure that thou knowest all things." (John 16:30). I mean, Jesus didn't really know all things before he ressurected, right (Mark 13:32)? So why does it say that? I guess if I look into context I would get the idea that the disciples were talking about the fact that Jesus already knows what they are thinking, but then the verse says "all things", so I don't get it. I hope someone can help me, thanks!

Hi there!

Jesus as the incarnation of God was 100 percent human and 100 percent God... and in that being, he was all the attributes of God. The omnipresence of God was set aside as Jesus was in a human body, but the omniscience and omnipotence, the lovingkindness, mercy, grace of God was evident in the incarnate Christ. That Jesus was omniscient... all-knowing, is evidences by many passages, the one that come mind is the woman at the well, which Jesus knew her history, her marital status, and her heart. Jesus knew what Nathaniel as doing in "bethany beyond Jordan, in the gospel of John. The passage in Luke that cites that Jesus grew in wisdom, was a learning Jesus, an incarnation of God that was learning the feelings and emotions of being human.

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Well, my understanding is... The Revelation of Jesus Christ IS the revelation of Jesus Christ, and as the Revelation reveals the second coming of Christ, there is no command from God for the Son to mount the white horse and lead the armies of heaven to war. (Rev 19) Jesus knows the time. Revelation reveals that. Colossians 2:9 says the fullness of the Godhead dwelt in Him... He was God. But with God, there is no "time" as in hours, minutes and days. All things are eternal, but all things past, present, and future are now. But during the incaration, with Jesus, there was time (another learning experience)... and man would not be able to comprehend the "time" that the Son would give as the time of the "day and hour"... something that only God would understand. In other words, being incarnate, time was in minutes, but being glorified, time is eternally now with no increments of time measurement.

I hope this helps in your understanding.

Thanks, I understand more about His second coming, but I still don't get why the verse in John 16:30 said He knows all things. :(

I guess by reading the chapter I would get that the disciples were questioning among themselves what Jesus was saying, but then Jesus already knew they had those questions so He told them so...and then that's why they said you know all things, we don't need to question, etc. So what they were saying was that Jesus knew their thoughts, so it didn't relate to the time of His second coming. Still, I don't get why then they said "all things" and not like "all of our thoughts, etc"... What I really want to know is what the verse means.
