  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lux et lex,
Obviously there is because there is an entire section here devoted to it and entire organizations devoted to both sides of the issue. As much as you try to state your opinion as fact, that will not make it so.
Irrelevant, there is a whole side of the debate that is clearly wrong. All the life that the pro-choice side see has already been past the stage of conception. Unless of course you are suggesting life can start before conception its is fact and not opinion as you incorrectly said

Some think of life as a continuum....both sperm and egg are alive before they meet. There is no one point where you can point to and say "aha! It's alive!" And I strongly believe life does not begin at conception. There are several 'life processes' that need to be in action before something can be considered a living being. A newly fertilized egg does not qualify.

Then if "life" is based off life processes (development) and not location, are there not fetuses in the womb with developed life processes in order to be considered living? (ie. they would be able to survive "on their own" if they just weren't in the womb - needs air for oxygen, etc.)

And if a child is born without having fully developed life processes (needs a breathing apparatus, etc.), but is out of the womb, is it alive or not?

Why is it that passing through the birth canal makes the fetus alive? Does the birth canal magically bestow life on the fetus?

Obviously, I believe the fetus is alive as soon as it begins to develop on its own - ie. conception. So it is alive and growing while it is just a fetus.

Neither of us were just sperm or egg, we are the product of the conception by sperm and egg so your point is irrelevant to the one I made.

There is no one point where you can point to and say "aha! It's alive!" And I strongly believe life does not begin at conception.
Ok so ‘alive’ is what you have added to avoid the point put to you. Alive is irrelevant as neither sperm nor egg reproduce on their own, the point at which reproduction starts is conception.
