  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I realize that Catholics condemn contraception, but I have another scenario:

Due to a woman's monthly cycle, she is more prone to fertilization at certain stages than others, correct? Would it be a sin for two married people to only have sex on the days when she is not likely to become pregnant in order to not have children? Thanks. :)

I believe that you have described the type of birth control that is approved by the Catholic church so there are very few that would consider it a sin except those few who believe that sexual relations should only be used for the purpose of creating children. This is the view of some conservative Mormons who use that view to justify their practice of men having multiple wives. To counter the arguement that it is an immoral lifestyle, they claim that the men in their group have sex for the sole purpose of getting the many wives pregnant.BELIEVE IT?

I believe that it is up the couple. I don't see anything wrong with contraception. (my personal belief) If this is an area where you feel that it is a sin to use contraception, then do what you feel lead to do, in your own heart as long as your husband is with you on this.

Like I said, I don't believe that it s a sin to use contraception, but both of my kids were born with it. When it is God's will, it just happens. (I praise Him for both of my children and they were right on time)

My mother in-law is Greek Orthadox and they did what you mentioned above. (I don't know if it was because of her beliefs or what) They had their children when they wanted them and after that, they continued to use this method and didn't have any more children.

It is all up to the couple and what you feel the right way is.

I am not Catholic, yet have the conviction that any contraception that may cause potential harm to a conceived child (even if 1% chance) is wrong. Thus, i will never use the Pill, IUD and the like.

I have a little problem with barrier methods also - but that is simply a personal thing - will use them though.

As for not having sex during a womens fertile cycle - I do not see a problem with this and have used this method for 8 years now. Having said that - I have 5 children ;)

Are you asking whether this is acceptable for Catholics? If so, then yes, the earlier reply you got was correct, this is essentially the form of birth control permitted by the Church. This does assume that the couple is prayerfully ascertaining God's will, as we believe that we are called to balance prudence and generosity with regards to family size.

FYI, if you are more interested in learning about Natural Family Planning (NFP), which is what this method is, I can certainly point you to some resources. DH and I used it to both avoid and achieve pregnancy.

A sixteen year old.....debating about such. Dear Lord is it any wonder that childhood is no more, and romance is now obsolete? Unknown....indeed.
