Having had two great-grandparents and a grandmother who were Orthodox it was always something that remained peripheral. Last Fall (2003) at age 43 I started to get serious about it. Better late than never! I believe their prayers from heaven have been a great help.

OK, this is off topic, but I feel very honored by the invitation to come back. I read more than I post in TAW.

I thought I'd accept your invitation to call your attention to this thread on the Jesus prayer. It seems Zoot has some specific questions or observations. Maybe someone here could go there and check it out?

Thanks again for your warm welcome.

Crazy Liz,
I too appreciate your input. Your advice in the Jesus Prayer thread was spot on. I grimaced when you mentioned "arrogant convert", as this is a common occurance. I was SO zealous when I first joined the Church, and self-righteous. Luckily we mellow out with time.

How old were you when you first started thinking deeply about Orthodoxy?

Hi folks,

Been awhile since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd say hi and answer the question above...

Well, I've been an Orthodox Christian since I was almost 9 years old, but I first started thinking deeply about Orthodoxy when I was 18. :D

Basically I was raised in a "non-canonical" orthodox church, which (if you can imagine this), was like a combination between Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Charismatic.

I always believed in God, but never really paid attention during service. Then the church I was Christmated into had a lot of bad political stuff happen when I was 12, so my family stopped going there, and my parents didn't force me to go to church. I'm thankful for that. They gave me some room to breath. Then when I started college, I started going to an OCA parish, and have been going there ever since. When I started going back, I became more and more interested in theology. Now I actually CARE about Church. ;)

In XC,
CyberSponge (ok, I realize that's a funny name. :D )

As one of the Fathers said:

"Zeal isn't the problem. The problem is zeal without knowledge."
