Rude is subjective. My wife and her friends call each other “chick” and none of them think it’s rude...

Ya, I agree. I don't get to choose what offends somebody. But animal calling is generally rude to me (especially without a special context). Dictionaries support that. This could be "n**ga" all over again at its early stage. Not the best way to address a woman nonetheless. Then again this comes from someone who does not call an adult "baby".

"You see that butterfly? You look pretty just like it." - :whitecheck: animal reference

Cultural differences or exposure may play some part in our differing opinions.

I approve your signature though P:

Sorry, I wrote this in another section, but I don't think that section is very active. So, I am going to repost it here.

Do you find it disrespectful when young men or any man refer to women as chicks? I don't understand why they do this. There is this chick outside and she was like this or that, is what I hear a lot. My brothers refer to women this way.

Why can't they just say there is this lady outside?

We don't always say respectful things about men.
But sure "chick" is as you say.
Nobody wants it applied to their mom.
