I have an acquaintence who is a Salvation Army captain. He has been admonished by his superiors for joining in the interdenominational worship services and prayer meetings that have gone on over the last few years in our community. Most of the churches involved are charismatic, but also the local Disciples of Christ church and some others have participated. Can anyone explain to me why the SA would frown upon such things - isn't it good to come together with fellow-Christians and lift up the name of Jesus?

The Salvation Army in general doesn't frown upon such things (interdenominational meetings, etc), as far as I'm aware. There are a couple of things that occur to me, though:

- There's something about the particular meetings that doesn't fit with Salvation Army beliefs

- The 'superior officers' who admonished the officer saw something they didn't like about the meetings. Whether that was through a fault of theirs or wise discernment, I don't know.

Sorry that I can't help further.

I don't understand. We meet regularly with Christians of other denominations

That was my thought too.

I suspect we need more information about the denominations involved.
