  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering if you could give me some information on the following.
With my last labour, I had a swollen anterior lip, that became caught over the babies head, which of course prevented birthing. Finally after six hours of labouring like this, they finally did an internal, discovered what was wrong, pushed the lip back, and the baby was birthed next push.
I was wondering if it was more likely that this would be a reoccurance, with subsequent labours, or, was there little evidence that this would occur again.
As the labouring sensations are completely different to my normal labours, (I am sure that I would know pretty quickly should this happen again), it's just as the pregnancy is nearing it's end, this has been a question that I have been wondering about.
Any input/information would be much appreciated.

Hi Tracey!

Every pregnancy and labor is different, so it may or may not happen again. I've only had it happen with 1 of my labors, which ironically, was my last and made no difference at all when she was birthed. (They kept telling me I wasn't complete, so I couldn't push. I pushed anyway when I felt I needed to, and DD was born unassisted in the hospital. LOL)

From what I've been reading, the position of the baby is Key in how labor tends to progress. This website is so cool! and has lots of great info: www.spinningbabies.com I wish I'd found this site back when I was pregnant with a couple of my older kids... my labors would have gone so much more smoothly I think.

Thankyou Jan for the information. I am going to read through the site now.
I wish pushing had worked for me. That's why I was so exhausted, because my body was wanting to push, which I did, but I was getting contraction pains at the same time, which, it I was pushing, I shouldn't haven't been getting.
Still we live and learn.
Thanks again for info.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you Do get contractions along with the urge to push. If you push with your body's cues during the contraction, it feels Goooood... maybe it feels good to be doing something, or maybe it just feels good to push... whatever it is, you push With the contractions.

Do you have Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon? Fabulous book on all the different stages of labor (and emotions that are typical during each one). It's pretty graphic, but realistic. :)
