  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am trying REALLY hard to argue in your favor in an English essay for my Composition class. My task is to argue for prophecy, prayer, and faith. I am trying to find reputable sources, and am having tremendous difficulty. I have tried posting where I think this question would be best answered, only to find that I cannot post in those forums yet....so anyway, if anyone out there knows of some reputable sources of benefits of prayer and faith...and even why one should or would believe in prophecy, the help would be greatly appreciated.

I already tried there, but I can't post that question in that area, according to the rules that they established for that forum...it says that questions in that thread are to be from christians, interested in learning about becoming a christian...unless I misunderstood the forum rules.

This is a quote from one of the stickies in that forum ... the name of the forum is Questions by non-Christians.

This forum is specifically for non-believers to ask Christians, both staff and members, questions about Christianity, the Christian faith and issues about salvation and the gospel

You could post your questions there.

Looking over apologetics is the only way to speak for the Bible. History supports prophecy, but one has to be familiar with it in order to argue for it. This site might help for prophecies fulfilled:
http://www.100prophecies.org/

Get creative with the google or yahoo search engines. Type in subject and verb that you want info about. I typed "prophecies fulfilled" and got many hits.

Try "argument for prayer" or something else??
A great book for faith is Lee Strobels book, "A Case For Faith". Lee set out, as an atheist, to once and for all disprove the Bible and those who have faith in God. He visited all the so-called greatest minds in Christianity and questioned them and got surprising answers that finally convinced him that faith in God is not so strange a thing, after all. Check it out.

I guess my question is: What would be considered a reputable source for this class?

If you can give me some insight on that, maybe I can help. And for prophecy, prayer and faith as opposed to what? Is there a counterpoint to argue against or is it just that they are useful?

There have been studies showing prayer effective using this method:
Several people in the same hospital are monitored. Churches out of state are asked to pray for half, while the others were (supposedly) not prayed for. Those prayed for recovered more quickly.

Maybe you could use something like that to search?

Would Focus on the Family or Christian Research Institute be considered reputable enough?

Here is some prophecy: http://www.sotl.org/public/proofs.htm - Make sure to check out "Ezekiel's Prophecy of Israel's Rebirth in 1948."

Scientific facts: http://www.understandthetimes.org/101scientific.shtml - Not prophecy in the normal way of thinking about prophecy but these are facts that are found in the Bible 100s & 1000s of years before they were discovered by the scientific community. These being in the Bible long before they were discovered is a strong witness that the Bible is God's Word.

Hope these sites help!
