  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love crocheting when I feel ambitious enough, and now I feel like making another scarf! I have a pattern for a scarf and it calls for a size K hook. I went to my bag of yarn and got out my hooks and all I have are: I,J,F,G & H. Do I need to go out and buy a new hook or will my J be an OK substitute? I know hooks are cheap, but I don't have much of an opportunity to go to the store and buy a hook. Thanks in advance!

I started the scarf and it still looks fine... maybe later I'll go back and make another with the "right" size hook. Thanks for the tips!

Personally, I would have waited until I got the right hook to make the scarf. But that is just me. If I am trying a new pattern I like to work it to gauge with the correct hook and yarn weight -- but after I know what I am doing and how it turns out, I have been known to "play" with the pattern and materials.

What weight yarn are you using for this scarf?

umm... I'm not really sure about that. It's whatever yarn was left over from my last project w/ that color, probably 5 years ago. The normal Red Heart (??) stuff I think. I actually finished the scarf, and although it looks nothing like the pattern... I love it!

Probably worsted weight. The K hook would give you a looser softer feel.

I'm glad you like the way your scarf turned out. In the long run that is all that matters.:D
