  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are female cats supposed to be the more territorial ones?

I have seven cats (4 female, 3 male). I brought home the third male cat in July. I thought there would be chaos. But no. The other male cats took him in. They cleaned him up and made him feel welcome. Of course, he was welcome as long as he stayed away from the female cats. The female cats hissed and slapped at him if he got near them.

It was always my assumption that male cats were more territorial. In my house they're not. Is this usual?

They seem to be - or they're just more moody. At least mine are.

Yes and I have three girls and 1 boy...all from the same lineage. The boy is the youngest. He's the most loveable and easy to get along with. The girls hiss and fight with him when he wants to play. They hiss and fight with each other when one gets too close and the matriarch has been known to scratch and bite the everloving blood out of me or my husband when you disturb her resting space. I used to think it was because she'd been an only cat for so long and was set in her ways but...

My Aunt was over in the summer and really took to the boy and she made some comment how boys are more loveable. I said "Really?" And she went on to tell me as if it was common knowledge and why did I think she always had boy cats and no females at her home?

So apparently, it's normal...at least for indoor cats. I don't know if feral cats have the same structure set up or not...Always hearing about the tom cats who come home bloody and in fights. [Though maybe that is for reproduction purposes...the battle scars I mean.] ;)

My female cats have been like this as long as I can remember and I have no solution except to say something when they start growling and hissing and fighting in the house.

My parents have a boy and a girl and they clean each other and are very loving with each other except once in a while she gets in a mood and they go round and round. My parents do the same thing I do which is nothing but to call them down.

I have up to 10 cats when I was little. The females always control the territory.
I have seen tom cats fight but are more nomads. They will seek out and conquer areas but won't fight for their home. But the females will howl and attack others that she doesn't like.

i have one male and one female cat. the male is the sweetest thing ever, but the female is terribly territorial and if he even comes near her, she will hiss and get in his face. i have seen this happen a lot with other females and males also. males are very territorial with eachother and with ppl, dogs, and other animals, but usually they are not as aggressive with females. females are dominant in their society and do not usually appreciate male advances on them.

From my experience, Males will be more territorial outside than in the home.

Females, well there is always the "head" cat, the queen. and what teh females may be doing is telling the new guy hey look we are at the top of the heap here...and will eventually accept him if he submits tot heir queendome
