  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are more kinds of beetles than kinds of anything else on earth ! there are estimates that beetles may acount for as much as 1 million of the earth's 6 million animal species . only four thousand species of mammals have been identified . this means there are atleast 1,500 type of beetles for every type of mammal .
this prompted the British scientist J.B.S. Haldane to remark that if God exists he has a special liking for beetles.
well my question is from ur religion's point of view ( christian , jewish,muslim,hindu,pagan,bahai,other religion) can u try to explain why God created so many kinds of beetles ? it looks like He took more time creating beetles than creating man . why did He create so many types ?;)

Hmm, interesting.

Makes clear one thing - there are more unevolved souls in the world than the evolved ones.

Ants are another species that have a huge variety and not to speak of the number. And lower forms of life like bacteria and virus are virtually uncountable.

I do not think of beetles as a speciality - every creation of God is.

As a scientific reason, beetles have high survival abilities, under very harsh climates, and can even survive radiation. That might explain their number.

Well, if you know anything about the TOE, then that should explain my stance pretty much.

HEY! We agree on something Ram. :thumbsup:

You refer to such creatures as un-evolved souls? Interesting…I would think from their success rate that they are quite well evolved.

I must admit though, in my ponderings of reincarnation, I’ve wondered if the June Bug Beetles that slam themselves into the wall trying to get to the porch light on a summer night, was really the reincarnation of lost souls with one thing on their tiny minds.

“Set me free!” *WHAM* “set me free!” *WHAM* – as they head toward the light. ^_^

(I can’t make it sound as funny on the internet, lol and if you don’t have those where you live, then you probably don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, lol)

My reply:

You know Sanaa, I think this is the first time I've heard of this question! So I want to thank you for your originality and curiosity!

I did a search of the English translations of the Baha'i Writings and came up with the following:

"But, alas! the blind do not see and the deaf do not hear the divine proclamation. The bats do not perceive the light of the sun and the beetles cannot enjoy the fragrances of a rose-garden."

- Abdul-Baha

from p. 409 Tablets of `Abdu'l-Bahá Abbas Volume II

Of course the quote above is more symbolic of beetles as with bats... so I checked the larger more inclusive "insects" which we would agree beetles would be classified as and got some results:

"Nevertheless, it is yet the early dawn and the strength of the heat and the rays of the Sun of Truth have not yet made their torrid and complete impression When it reacheth the zenith, the heat will interpenetrate with such great intensity that it will move and spur to the greatest velocity even the insects below the earth. Although they are not able to behold the light, yet the penetration of the heat will move and agitate all of them."

- Abdul-Baha in "Baha'i World Faith"

And this:

"Nevertheless, it is yet the early dawn and the strength of the heat and the rays of the Sun of Truth have not yet made their torrid and complete impression. When it reacheth the zenith, the heat will interpenetrate with such great intensity that it will move and spur to the greatest velocity even the insects below the earth. Alhtough they are not able to behold the light, yet the penetration of the heat will move and agitate all of them. Consequently, O ye friends of God, be ye thankful that in the Day of the Effulgence ye have turned your faces to the Orb of the regions and beheld the Lights!"

- Abdul-Baha

From p. 503 Tablets of `Abdu'l-Bahá Abbas Volume III

The phrase:

"...heat will interpenetrate with such great intensity that it will move and spur to the greatest velocity even the insects below the earth..."

Would definitely I think refer to beetles and so i would conclude that their multiplicity is related to the rising of the Sun of Truth.

1 - beetles are a cure for drepression. no matter how hard thigs are for you, you can look to a beetle and say "yep, my life could be worse...;
2 - to serve as inbspiration to really smart cars and nice music;
3 - birds and frogs demanded a menu full of options;
4 - actually, there was another species of beetles planned... but God Thought it was too much, and Decided to make it cocroaches instead. that caused the first cocroach to swear revenge and since then, it became the greatest enemy of women, God's Most perfect Creation.
5 - God Created a produtivity prize between angels, to see with one could give more ideas about new Animals. The angel who come with the idea of the thousands of beetles won. Oddly enough, that was the angel who was also responsible for Heaven's Xerox machine.

I mostly agree. It seems Americans loved the beetles even more than the Brits, until that whole "more important than Jesus Christ" thing. Granted, Jesus was an import much earlier, but then in many ways communication was slower in those days, and Jesus wasn't always noted for his musical prowess.
Most folk will acquiesce that birds and frogs are some of the best musicians, and perhaps they get that from ingesting the beetles. The different kinds probably stems from the need for variety in the band. Without an abundance of beetles, music in the animal kingdom might not be what it is today.
Personally, I like the C# beetles the best, though a nice chord of bettles makes for a full meal.
I wonder what crickets think?

I figure God made the primordial soup that evolved into the beetle, with or without divine intervention. The beetle then evolved (with or without divine intervention), for a variety of reasons, into a large amount of beetles.

Or God could just happen to think beetles are neat.

("Uh, Jesus, could You go deliver this message to the humans?"

"What? Why don't You?"

"Well, technically We're both doing it, Son, but I'd rather watch beetles, You go.")

Beetles are God's chosen people.

Just kidding. I think it's natural selection that led to this.

Well as stated in the Holy Quran, "When He has decreed something, He says to it only: `Be!'and it is" [Aal `Imraan 3:47] " there is no limit of time to Allah (swt). This is only an earthly limitation. By that I mean that when Allah wills for something to happen, there is no "process" for its happening. It just happens, not only quickly, but without time at all. Therefore it doesn't take Allah more "work" to make 1 million spieces of beetles than it does to make 1.

Secondly, just a minor correction. The number of species of beetles has been inflated. The actual number of species of beetles is approximated at above 40,000. However, the amount is irrelevant. There could be 40 species or 40 million species and the reason for their existence would be the same.

Before we get into that, let's ponder a small question: Is the earth a simple entity or a complex macrocosm? It's obviously very complex. There are many processes occuring on earth at the same time: precipitation, condensation, evaporation, perspiration, respiration, erosion, combustion and on and on and on. The point is that the earth is very complex and the One who designed it keeps everything in order. If we can agree on that, then we would also agree that the One who is capable of designing such a complete and perfect system would also have to be complete and perfect, correct?

Knowing that the Creator is complete and perfect, we can deduce that there must be a reason for each of the billions of creations. Although some species of beetles are destructive in that they eat plants, there are also many species of beetles that are beneficial and useful to farmers.

For example, ladybird beetles feed upon aphids and other small sucking insects that injure food crops, and ground beetles feed on crop-damaging potato beetles and caterpillars that destroy trees and shrubs.

From an egocentric perspective, I can see how a person might feel jealous that there is only one species of humans but over 40,000 species of beetles. However, every creature serves a purpose, whether good or bad. Something need not be beneficial in order to serve a purpose.

& Allah swt knows best...

Well, as a buddhist, i do not belive in a creator, and the only answer I can think of is that evolution caused this. I'm not exatly sure why insects would evolve into beetles, but I do not have an extensive knowledge of the anatomy of a beetle.
