  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why does the NAB bible include Malachi 3:19-23 but other translations don't?
The New American Bible, NAB, is a Catholic Bible which uses the Septuagint version of the Old Testament,
which includes 7 books not in the Hebrew Bible, which protestant Bible's use.

During the first century Christian Church, the Septuagint version was used for Greek Speaking Jews.
80% of the quotations in the New Testament to the Old Testament, can be found in the Septuagint.

Judaism for a long time claimed that the Septuagint translation was not used. The discovery ot
the Dead Sea Scrolls changed that as the Septuagint and Hebrew versions of the Old Testament
were found.

Why does the NAB bible include Malachi 3:19-23 but other translations don't?

The passage that appears in the NAB as Malachi 3:19-23 appears as Malachi 4 in a number of other translations. So, it's not a matter of omitting those verses; rather, it's a matter of which chapter/verse numbers attach to them.

The notes in my study Bibles didn't address the differences in chapter numberings, so for the moment I'm stuck here. Presumably, it goes back to the choices communities made when they first started assigning chapter numbers to the text, but I don't know more than that.

The English NET Bible explains that the Hebrew manuscript of Malachi
does not have a chapter 4.

So, translations that follow this chapter labelling, put what is in chapter 4 in
some translations, at the end of chapter 3.
