• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was reading brain lock by and the author was saying that OCD cannot override youre will .. Well i see what he is saying for example i have had harm thoughts that i would never do ..but i started thinking about blasphemous thoughts and accidental speaking blasphemy ..when the latter happens is it not a result of ocd ?and if so then is it not against our will ?

because obviously we do what we don't wish to do at all. ?

the concern is .. if OCD never produces this then is it really comming from our own heart or will ..

i hope that makes sense

A person with OCD that does not accept Christ will go to hell just as a "normal" person without OCD who does not accept Christ will go to hell. But I also believe that an OCD person who has accepted Christ, is saved by Christ forever. Just as a non OCD person is that is saved by Christ, is saved forever.

I think the author of Brain Lock, is referring to our actions, not our thoughts etc. And like the thoughts, I think this would also include stuff that just kinda pops out your mouth simply because you are so focused on it. Not volitional. Yes, I think he means harmful actions. The kind of thing you don't do by accident. ( For example, some people with OCD have fears that they will just all of sudden stab their newborn infant. He is trying to assure people that this just doesn't happen if they don't want it to happen. It's just their brand of OCD fears. Now to illustrate, someone could accidentally drop their baby and harm it, but that's not volitional. It just can happen. Same way with the kind of stuff you're referring to.) Dr Phillipson explains in the video someone posted that certain thoughts, however, just pop into our brain whether we want them or not. That's just how our brains function, OCD or not.
