  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:help: Alright, as many of you already know, i have joined the Marine Corps last August. My time for going to Boot Camp is coming soon (almost exactly 3 months to the day), and there is one little problem. My brother has since been deployed to Cuba, and will not be back until a week before i graduate from High School, and he was planning on taking leave so that he could attend my graduation. BUT, my Great Grandma is having a huge family reunion in July, so he has decided to instead take leave in July so he could see the rest of the family.

Well, my mom came up with this idea that i could just go down and stay with him in South Carolina (i would leave the day after my graduation) and then he would deliver me to the Recruiting Depot there. My question is, is this possible? Isn't there something that has to be done with the paper work and my physical at MEPS before i can leave? I have yet to contact my recruiter, but i hoped that you all would have some insight to this and give me some sort of information or advice.

Thank you for your time and patience!

I wish I could give you current advise on the current rules and regs governing recruits and MEPS but the last time I went thru the MEPS, it was called AFEES - Armed Forces Examination Substation in Oakland, CA in '74. The only advise I can give you is to go have a sit down talk with your recruiter and explain whats going on. I wouldnt see a problem but its been over 30 yrs since I went thru the mill so I dont really know.

But, regardless, congratulations on your choice - you picked the best. I wish you the best of luck, you better already be prepared mentally as well as working out physically AND be getting some road work in. Its gonna be an experience - remember, you only get out what you put in.

Yes, you absolutely have to go through MEPS before going to basic training. You will be looked over once again before you depart and all your paperwork will be finalized, and they'll give you and the other unfortunate souls accompanying you your plane tickets and send you off to the airport.

Yes you will have to go to the MEPS before you leave because they are responsible for you until you get on the island. I lived 62 miles away and they escorted me to Parris Island for basic training. Good luck and stay out of the "Pit" and off the "Quarter Deck".

I just got the boot from USAREC myself ( Army Rectuier School ), You have to process through MEPs, and they have to provide transportation to your Basic Training. You are under their liability when you swear in the second time.

I'm not sure exactly how things are done on the USMC side of the house, but I doubt it's much different.

Well, a new update. My ship date has been changed to June 5th. Actually, it has always been june 5th, but with this dilemma with me going to stay with my brother, my recruiter dug up the info, and so basically, if I never came up with the idea to stay with him, i would have missed my ship date!
