  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just wondering if a wedding is a good enough reason to take leave. My sister is getting married, and we may be going to the field near the time she gets married. She is getting married on the 5th of July, and I am asking from 30 June, to July 6th. The 7th is a Monday. My unit has block leave from 14 June to the 29th, then we are supposed to go to the field fr about 50 days. I know that we won't be doing anything during the weekend of the 4th but I am stationed in Germany so things are a bit more tricky over here. Anyone else gotten off for a wedding in the immediate family?

Heck yea. Hubby has taken leave for less, as well. I work full time, so he takes leave to be with the kids when they are on vaca sometimes. If you have the leave time on the books, there isn't a much better reason than a wedding :) Congrats to your sister as well.

Yup, thats a great reason. I never gave that good of a reason and always got it. You may have a problem about the timeframe if its near a scheduled training excercise and there may be allot of others asking for the 4th too as its a holiday. Check with your chain of command and get the request in asap soldier!

Make sure you get your paperwork done right. That could fudge the whole plan if its not perfect.

As a retired Army SSG, I would say yes, Put in your DA 31, and ask for the leave. If it is disapproved you can show your sister that you tried.

Remember, there are FAMILY occasions that YOU SHOULD go to. This is one of them.

ASK FOR THE LEAVE today! Be the first in the Platoon to ask for leave for the July 4th weekend, and you will likely get it! SSG, USA retired

A wedding is pretty big, that might be enough to get you off block leave. But make sure you ask early, and make sure that you talk to your NCO about it, or your immediate superior I find it always works best when your COC is aware of personal issues like that, because generally they try to resolve them.
