You missed my point.

Those who cannot understand the complicated need the basic first so that they can understand the complicated.

I rather think that he was illustrating the point. Perhaps it is our error in expecting him to understand the doctrines we present.

I don't agree at all. Prophets were referred to as "son of man" as well throughout the OT. Further, I see no claim that Jesus claimed to be the Son of Man in Daniel. Daniel was apparently referred to as the son of man in Dan 8:17. Daniel also speaks of one like the Son of Man.
Jesus was not convicted for being the Son of Man, but for claiming to be the Son of God.
Matt 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: [Christ did not deny it. This was the "blasphemy"] nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
OK. But I'm not making any of this up. It's in Dr. Segal's book, and in the bibliography of the website I linked to. Each book and article is a scholarly resource. I don't think the LDS is giving it's members the full story about the 2nd-temple Judaic origins of orthodox Christianity.

For example, has the LDS ever revealed to you that there was a genuine Godhead among 2nd temple Jews? And that it's compatible with orthodox Christianity? In fact, that's where the first Christians got their theology; they didn't just pull it out of the air. Rabbinical sources from that time reveal it. Here's a video about the Jewish trinity. The speaker is Hebrew scholar Michael Heiser.

We would have no reason to deny that Chet. Indeed, it would comport with our theology, and help to prove our interpretation of the Godhead to Jewish converts. That in no way shows a "Jewish trinity." There is nothing concerning the Holy Spirit. My personal problems with the doctrine of the trinity are not that there are three members referred to as "set apart," but all the erroneous doctrine/creeds surrounding them. Indeed, I believe scripturally, that Jesus is YHWH Elohim with the Father, and that they are echad/one. That in no way converts to the "doctrine of the trinity" with its errant restatements of how the Son of God is "eternally begotten," etc. How about the three men who show up at Abraham's place who he refers to as YHWH(although this might should correctly read Elohim/Adonai)?
