  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question about Communion

1 CO 11:27-29 "Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself."

I've been wondering how this passage is to be interpreted. If someone takes communion right after committing a sin, is that taking the cup in an unworthy manner? Is taking communion in an unworthy manner even forgivable? Or does this just mean your heart should be dedicated to Christ and understand what the symbols of the cup and break represent before taking communion?

We are to be reconciled with our brother before we partake of communion.
So to have a hate toward a brother, is a sin, which must be resolved.

Is taking communion in an unworthy manner even forgivable?
Pray to the All Mericful Lord God for forgiveness. If you arte one of His, then you are an adopted child of God. What Father will not forgive a truly sorrowful child?

Or does this just mean your heart should be dedicated to Christ and understand what the symbols of the cup and break represent before taking communion?

Well, nowhere in the passage you provided, nor in any Bible passsage does it say that those are only symbolic.

Take that entire passage as a whole, which is a correct way to do so, and what does it state:
One can be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
Eating and drinking communion without recognizing the body is doing a bad thing.

peace be with you,
Kenny

Svt4Him,
peace be with you.

I asked as I did not want to accuse you falsely. I allowed you the opportunity to explain your intnet, which you did and I do thank you for that. :)

And to give your new thread a "fair chance", I will not respond to it first.

I'll show up on the thread soon enough.

Peace,
Kenny

Christ was not only God, but man, and the body and blood represents much power or the scriptures would not go on to say of those that were taking it unworthily:

1 Corinthians 11:30 [Amplified] That [careless and unworthy participation] is the reason many of you are weak and sickly, and quite enough of you have fallen into the sleep of death.
