  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Given Jesus' general portrait of God, it's out of character to have a sin that can't be repented. I've wondered whether the sin is unforgiveable while the person continues rejecting the Holy Spirit. Did Jesus actually mean to say that it's unforgiveable even if someone repents?

Jesus words in red

8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Luke 12:8-12 (KJV)

There are Scriptures that talk about how God keeps no record of wrongs, remembers our sins no more, throws our sins are far as the east is from the west.

What about real blasphemy of the Holy Spirit though? I know that is an eternal sin, and the Scriptures say that it will never be forgiven; but because it cannot be forgiven, is it possible for God to just remove it from your record without forgiving it? (So that the sin will not show up at all meaning there is nothing on record to forgive, so that you may be saved?) Essentially, can He remove this sin without needing to forgive it first before He removes it? I know what God says is truth, if He says that those who commit this sin will not be forgiven, I believe He is telling the truth. This is why I am wanting to know if He can just remove it from record without forgiving it, so that those who have committed it, can be saved if they truly want to be saved by Jesus after committing that sin.

What are your conclusions and why? Please be respectfully honest. (If you can please stick to my main questions I am asking, I would appreciate it.)

Thanks.
If you read where Christ proclaims this sin, it is to the Pharisees, the religious leaders of the day.
This signifies that it is in fact people who profess religion who commit this sin.
They do it by ascribing the work of the Holy Spirit to the devil...
The Pharisees accused Christ of casting out devils and working miracles by Beezlebub the prince of devils.

If you worry you have committed it, you haven't. For those that commit it are blinded in sin, and wear a cloak of self righteousness.
They will never know they committed it, for they believe they are righteous and God stands with them,
although they are enemies to him. These people hate the true teaching of God, and ascribe sound doctrine, such as self condemnation and guilt for sin, to the devil.
In the place of humility, they seek to built up self esteem, and happiness in ones self.
Any that work against this get branded for the devil, when it is the devil who seeks to build up self esteem and pride in ones self.
Young and new believers often worry they have committed this sin...
It is Satan's strategy to discourage one in their pursuit of Christ,
so he seeks to cause them to give up, and quit.

None who commit this sin will have a chance of salvation. For they are the enemies of salvation who commit this sin,
while at the same time profess to be what they are not: Christians.
They seek the destruction of other souls by false teachings, and oppose the true teaching of Christ, just as the Pharisees.
They cannot stand the true gospel...but preach another, where human power is sufficient, and by the Law, though they say "grace."
When one preaches the true helplessness of the human race, and their down condition,
they rise in protest to the word of God, which condemns all born of the flesh, and not born of the Spirit.

However, this is a dangerous subject...it would be impossible to say exactly who they are that commit this.
For Paul himself was once against Christ, yet Christ called him and made him a servant.

But the general idea I get is that it is committed by false teachers, and that of Christianity.
And the "spirit" behind it is the "self-righteousness" the Pharisees had,
and a trust in the Law, externally. They only look at the outside of things.
When they see the true work of God by his Spirit, they ascribe it to the devil.
