Agreed on the point of distinction regarding authority Lotar. I think that is still why they are regarded as being "deuterocanonical" or on a second plane of authority. I believe both Luther's Bible and the English KJV up to 1611 both held these books as a separate grouping, and it was not until later that they were completely dropped. Personally, I'm actually not a big fan of the books. In general the only ones I usually go back and read are Tobit and Susanna.
I did forget the one other reason I've heard as to why the books in question were dropped, and that is that they lent to support to Roman Catholic doctrine that later generations of Refomers found objectionable.
