  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Agreed on the point of distinction regarding authority Lotar. I think that is still why they are regarded as being "deuterocanonical" or on a second plane of authority. I believe both Luther's Bible and the English KJV up to 1611 both held these books as a separate grouping, and it was not until later that they were completely dropped. Personally, I'm actually not a big fan of the books. In general the only ones I usually go back and read are Tobit and Susanna.

I did forget the one other reason I've heard as to why the books in question were dropped, and that is that they lent to support to Roman Catholic doctrine that later generations of Refomers found objectionable.

Correct, they were dropped from the Bible by the Puritans because they thought they supported Roman Catholic doctrine. To this day Lutherans and Anglicans still use them though. We even deem the Apocrypha worthy to be read during the service.
