a friend of mine just got back from basic a few weeks ago and because of hurricane rita i can't get in touch with him at all. he's fixin to leave for AIT in oct. i was wondering what kind of comminication he'll have there. like, will he be able to email or talk on the phone? do you know if there's a way i can find out his address there if he doesn't give it to me. i pray we'll be able to talk before he leaves, but if we don't...is there any way i can get in touch with him? he's my best friend and it's killing me not knowing what's going on! this is so frustrating!!

I didnt see specifics in the hotlink provided to you but I did look real hard either ;) . If you know what Fort your friend is going to you could possible contact the fort.

Unless things have really changed and depending on the job he is going into will depend on such things as e-mail, however, your friend should be able to call you.

I sent my first email the week I arrived Fort Eustis. It was nothing like BCT. As a matter of fact, I spent my entire weekend in the education center using internet computers instead of wasting money on MWR. After certain amount of time in AIT, depending on your class standing, you get good privileges such as annex pass, where you don't live in the barracks under DS supervision, and can go out anytime at night, no permision required.

AIT is a lot more laid back than BCT, but still strict. My fiance had specialty training that lasted 18 months. At first he wasn't allowed to email and had very few calls, but that was only for the first 3 weeks. After that our contact pretty much returned to normal, though he was very busy and we only got to talk for maybe 30 minutes a night, or so. It really depends on how long you're in training, what fort you're at, and what your job speciality is. Some of my friends only got "outside contact" on weekends, but their training was also only for about 10 weeks.

Not to sound ignorant, but what is AIT?

I think there will be mail, and E-mail, but he won't be able to check it everyday, and mail will take a while to get to him.

Advanced Infantry Training.
