• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey Ladies and Gentleman, I have had my share of struggles with depression and anxiety, and at one time I was even diagnosed with BiPolar. Anyway, I'm not on any meds right now and by God's Grace, I'm doing OK, but I make sure that I go to support groups and spend time with people who lift me up and encourage me.

I was just wondering if anyone here has taken or is currently taken Abilify? I took that stuff at one time and I had a horrible reaction to it. I was constantly dizzy, lightheaded, restless (everytime I sat down I felt like my legs just had to get up. I could hardly sit still), unable to sleep, and had no appetite.

Has anyone else had one or more of the symptoms I had? Just curious?

I'm on abilify and I'm fine on it, but I'm on a very low dosage, about a fourth of the dosage people usually take, my psychiatrist said. when i took a more typical dosage i had problems with dizzy spells and stuff, but on the low dosage i guess it helps me, at least i'm not having side effects. i just wish it wasn't so expensive!

i've had problems with serious side effects from other medications so it's nice ot find one that doesn't have those....

Well, I'm glad it's working for you. I guess it's because you're on a low dosage. But it seems like it's pretty common to affect people negatively like it did. But, hey, if it is helping someone else, then that's great.

God Bless all of you.

I was on Abilify and it actually did me more harm than good. I was already underweight weighing only 98 lbs when I went on it, and after bout a week, I was down to 95 lbs. It did nothing for my moods or anything, just threw me into depression from losing so much weight. Of course, it may work well for you and others. It just didn't agree with me personally.

Abilify might be a wonder drug for people for all I know, so I won't critize it too much.

However when I took it, I still could hear voices once in a great while. I was actually taking it for my thought disorder, but still some hallucinations would get in there. The main reason why I quit taking it was it was making me throw up, I kind of think thatis a common side effect, I mean I threw up reguarly. I could tell when I was going to throw up to, that went on for a year. My psychiatrist never told me this could make you throw up nor did my physical doctor know what was causing it. I must have missed like three days of work when I was making like $125 a day, and I couldn't get in there because I just thought I was going to puke in front of everybody. I was a math teacher. There were plenty of times I would just gag and start dry heaving. One time I went to seafood restaurant, I was hungry and I weigh three hundred pounds, so I ordered a lot of food. I ate it I go to my car and then I start to gag a little bit, and then for one whole minute I puked that whole meal right in my car. I was working about 80 to 100 hours a week, I barely could clean that up, and that whole year I would puke in my car after eating something kind of more than occasionally. I think it happened more than five times, so I would drive around with a towel covering it up. I couldn't even clean it out or I would just screw up in my classes, so I could barely do that job right, and with my mental illness it was a real struggle to teach those students math. I would be nervous, and my mind would wander and I would be talking about math while thinking about something else it was terrible.

I quit taking it under the supervision of my psychiatrist who just switched me to geodon which works great, and I think I will take it for the rest of my life, it is priced at $300 a month so that is acceptable, but $600 a month or $20 a pill is not acceptable which is what the price for abilify was. Granted my insurance paid for it so that was how I got my drugs but without my insurance there would be no way for me to get drugs. That is not right but it is a hard fact of living in america, man do I need aflec or what?
