  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You can find the reason by reading in 2 Samuel 12:13. When Saul sinned against God, he tried to make excuses to justify his actions upon being rebuked for them. On the other hand, David immediately confessed that he had sinned by murdering Bathsheba’s husband. He did not argue with God’s judgment, and because of his humility God did not depart from his as He had from Saul, though David still had to suffer consequences for his actions. Hope this helps.

I should also note that God rejected Saul before he went to the witch (1 Samuel 16:1). If he had spoken to Saul after that time it was because he was not ready to exalt David. Thus he helped the corrupt administration to remain in place until David was ready to become king. Sorry my first reply was a little off topic. I read your question way too quickly.

I have an question in 1st Samuel chapter 28 I was wondering why Did God stop talking to Saul after he did wrong times and Saul went to talk to the witch of Endor. Wasn't it forbbidden in the bible? Can anyone explain? God bless you.

Saul only went to the Lord in prayer because he was desperate. This huge army was waiting to attack him and he was afraid. Saul spent the vast majority of his life ignoring God (even though the Bible tells us that God, at one time, showed him favor)...only as a last resort did he go to God. He prayed for God to come to him through his dreams and show him how the battle would turn out...he prayed that God would help him win. When God didn't answer his prayers or reveal Himself in Saul's dreams, that's when Saul, once again in desperation, went to the witch.

Saul had had all the prophets and witches and the like either killed or thrown out of his lands previously. Now, he sought one out in sheer desperation.

Funny thing is, Saul was so desperate to know the future (the outcome of the battle) that he walked practically right through David's army to get to the witch (in disguise, of course). And then, upon hearing from the witch that he would be killed the next day, he returned by the same path, walking practically right through David's army again.

Witchcraft was forbidden, and it was just another sin that Saul committed.

I've always thought that the lesson to be learned from Saul is that you can't ignore God and then, when you find yourself in trouble, call on Him to bail you out. I think Saul had plenty of chances to be spared by God...he wasted those chances.

Love, Heather
