  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My college does both sorta. We have fall and spring semesters and then we have summer and winter quarters. You only take one class during the winter quarter and it's the 3rd day of janurary into the third or last week of january. I kind of prefer quarters, but I like the fact that during semesters I can take a break with different classes.

My college doesn't; Most college in the south follow a semester system (IE. UGA, University of Arkansas, etc.) but from what I hear from my friends, Schools in the Midwest follow a quarter system (Ohio State, Northwestern,etc.). I prefer a semester system- more relaxed, less intense.

Yeah... I like Quarters, but we're switching over to Semesters in Fall 2012. Glad to hear it's a lot more relaxed and less intense. :)

I have both attended and worked in quarter system schools. I really like the shorter closure. When you're feeling overwhelmed, you know there's only a few more weeks to go.

The conversion is 3 semester hours to 4.5 quarter hours, or 2:3. That means any of your semester credits will essentially be course-per-course transfers, but you'll have some stray credits leftover.

Some schools make use of these extra fractional transfer points, but don't press them to turn stray points into courses.
