I remember watching Quantum Leap years ago but I never saw the final episode. Can anyone fill me in on what happened?

I don't remember the show actually ending with a Series Finale episode. It was just a season finale and the show was cancelled after that. You can do a search for Quantam Leap Episode Guides. I can't post a link yet...but I found a pretty good site that gives detailed re-caps for all the episodes.

Sam leaps into himself on his day & time of birth. There is no one in the Imaging Chamber. Al & Gooshie try to find Sam.
Sam is in a mining town and helps the people there. He also talks to the bartender who Sam thinks is God, or time or someone/thing else. Al finds Sam.
In the end, Sam leaps (as himself) to Al's first wife, Beth. Sam tells Beth that Al is alive and will be coming home soon.
The scene fades to black.
The last words are that Al and Beth will soon celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with their four daughters. Dr. Sam Beckett never returns home.

In my opinion, I think it was a sad ending.

There were also alternate endings filmed..cause they knew there was a chance of the show getting cancelled. It wasn't supposed to end that way, I don't think

I really liked this show a lot. I'm glad they are coming out to DVD.

I'm SO excited that Quantum Leap is out on DVD. I *loved* that show!

I thought the series ending was a little sad, too, but on the other hand I saw some hope in it -- like after all of that leaping, he had come to realize that he was fulfilling a needed purpose. So he decided to keep at it even when he didn't have to.
