What do you all think of Quakers... Jesus said he would send the holy spirit... to teach us... and they seem prepared to listen.
I like the meditative stillness and listening aspect.. as s Buddhist it is an appealing form of Christianity.

But what do others think?

I also love their practice of silence. There is a depth to Quaker spirituality that is hard to find elsewhere.

Of all the branches of Christianity, I think the Quakers do the best job of living out the teachings of Jesus. I love liturgy and tradition (hence my current home in the Episcopal Church), but if all the liturgical churches were to vanish from the earth tomorrow, I would probably be a Quaker. I worshipped for a few years at a nearby Friends Meeting, and one of my children currently teaches at a Friends School. I have seen remarkable spiritual wisdom in these communities.

I see Quakers as another offshoot of Protestantism. But if you're interested in the meditative aspects of Christianity you should google "hesychasm". If you would like a more in-depth study please read The Ladder of Divine Ascent by St. John Climacus. If I had my way about it, it would be included in the New Testament.

Quakers are like other denominations in variety, e.g you have Baptists that range from Independent fundamentalists to woke liberals. Same with Lutherans etc.
On the West Coast you have Evangelical Friends (Quakers chosen name is the Religious Society of Friends, taken from Jesus' words, "I have called you friends...") to some really liberal, heretical flavors on the East Coast. "Quakers" was given in derision, as was "Methodists"...

There are two different formats of worship. The Evangelical friends have pastors and sermons. Other groups from conservative to liberal have open worship. They gather and the aim is for any to speak as the Spirit leads (though for some, it is the spirit, lower case). At a Quaker seminary, one of my friends was pastor but introduced open worship back into his Quaker meeting. One of the first who spoke reminded the ladies to bring a Jello salad for their meeting. ...

My first book was published by Friends United Press, pertaining to a long time witness of Quakers. About | christianpacifism

Quakers roots are in christianity .... is a denomination .... of which there are many and vary in their interpretations

I would encourage you to study the bible for yourself .... all of us should do that.

Well praise GOD some Quakers don't act like some believers today. If we truly know then you understand.

Do we know the enemy can not create? So see all those people in the world that get so excited and dance and jump just loving the music. Yeah the enemy didn't create this :) OT Israel got really excited worshipping the lord. Some in the lord, in the spirit as He moves get very excited some even quake in His presence happened only once in my life so I don't touch them. Some dance raise their hands some stand say nothing. Its not about us or the one next to us its ALL about the king of kings lord of lords.

I had to pause and listen to the song playing right now. What are the odds as I was typing the words were "Can't stay silent can't stay still, When You show up in power, glory revealed Oh, I can't stay silent, can't stay still When I feel the fire, feel the ground shake" Kari Jobe that girl LOVES to worship the lord. Oh praise GOD glory to Jesus.. perfect Father thank you..

Central to early Friends was that 'Christ had come [to them] to teach His people himself [in the face of dead formalism of the day]. Geo. Fox: "Friends were...preaching the everlasting gospel of salvation, and turning people to Christ Jesus who died for them, that they might receive His free teaching."

Thus their worship centered on being open to and led by the Light of Christ.

In keeping with HIs teaching, they did as Christians of the first 3 Centuries did, and renounced bearing the sword.
