i love dave chappelle. one of the only black comedians i can stand. or understand more like it. i just cant understand chris rock, literally. not proficient in slang. but i think people just take things too seriously nowadays. when i was younger, people could be offended, but i didnt have to care. me and a friend from work (a white guy) use to tell racist jokes all the time while restocking supplies. he would tell redneck jokes and i would tell portuguese jokes (blonde jokes dont make as much sense here)

Meet Larry the Cable Guy, arguably the most successful white comedian in America today.

Do comedians get a free pass, so long as it makes someone laugh? Moreover, is there any effective way to battle hate speech in comedy?

Is there a line in comedy?

Larry the Cable Guy makes a living out of poking fun at the red-neck stereo-type. His "hate-speech" jokes are funny because the is poking fun at HIMSELF. lol

Now see - I am the exact opposite. I just don't find Chappelle funny and Rock is too funny.

But whether he believes what he says, his audience is clearly laughing because they share his character's value system. I don't ever get the impression that people are laughing at him.

I laugh at you all the time, but I don't share any of your values. In fact, your conclusions and characterizations in this post are humorous.

I never thought I would hear you advocating restricting speech because if offends others. What happened to your usual blanket, literal, adherence to the Bill of Rights?
