I can tell you what the purpose of life is, according to the Bible.
God created humans to enjoy the gift of life, and a close relationship with their life giver.
Scriptures:
Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:7-25; Isaiah 45:18; Acts 17:24-28; James 1:17

God's will has not changed on the basis that man deviated from God's will. Genesis 22:18; Isaiah 9:6, 7; Isaiah 65:17-25; Psalm 37:11, 29; Matthew 6:9, 10; Ephesians 1:10; Revelation 21:3-5

We can see God's purpose today, with eyes of understanding.
How our earth is created, and the things that bring us pleasure, both in a physical an spiritual way. are evidence man was created to enjoy life in harmony with the arrangement of God.

Though I would like to respond to you, the Statement of Faith of this sub-forum discourages saying to you what I disagree with.
The primary focus of this forum is Christian evangelism and discipleship, not to debate Christian Theology or challenge, attack, or argue against, Christianity.

Perhaps another thread in the appropriate sub-forum, would allow me to discuss this in more detail.
For now, I am responding to the original poster only.
Thanks.

What would a Jew under the Law, have to say?
I do not understand your question.?? Do you imply that this would of course be a response from a Jew under the Law as was Solomon? Or purely a sincere question?

One who is not under the Law...we NT believers...hold to the same Ecclesiastes conclusion.
Philippians tells us it is God in us causing us to will and to act (pertaining to believers). And God's purpose in our lives...which flows from this gift spoken of here in Philippians...brings joy and fulfillment and points to joyful pilgrimage and the looking forward to our goal as we carry out our kingdom work as God has ordained...the goal: heaven.
I John says, for this is the love of God: to obey His commands and His commands are not burdensome.

The two over riding commands which all other commands are cobordant to combined would be: Love God and secondly others with all Your heart, soul, mind and energy, yes fearing (respecting) God and obeying would fall under the main two, but the main two sum up our objective and are much easier understood as the objective.
Fearing and obeying sound like works with the Old Law being very work based, while "Love" is a gift and our response comes out of a gratitude from what we have been given.

I only cited Scriptures for you... I John 2 says now this is the love of God, to follow His commands and His commands are not burdensome.
But your O.P. seems to point more to the question of purpose in life which the entirety of my post provides an answer...in my opinion and for my life purpose from what I glean from my Scripture studies

Reading the Bible, listening to church preaching or talking with Christians it seems the main purpose of life is to get to Heaven, a happy eternal Paradise.
Reading the Bible is a good source when trusting and following Jesus.
Listening to a church or
listening to preaching or
talking (with people) or
talking with Christians
almost always leads to repeated and repeating errors.
define what is the purpose of life according to Christian teaching?
The op may have left the room. His question still illustrates very very common mis-conceptions present in this world we live in.

I John 4:19
We love because He first loved us.

I have no real quibble otherwise with this post.

Title. Purpose of life ?

6 He will render to each one according to his works:

to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and
honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;

but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth,

but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.

There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil,

the Jew first and also the Greek,

but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.

For God shows no partiality.

Paul is addressing Jewish and Gentile Christians and showing they will be judged equally, by their response to what has been given to them.
