I didn't like that the church building was equated with salvation. I didn't read any further than that.

I've tried reading it twice. Didn't get much farther than the understanding that we were the center of God's existance -

Try reading the old creeds instead of this book - or reading the Bible instead. Rick Warren has now become the darling of the secular press - that should tell you something.

I voted no, because it is seeker friendly, watered down version of the Gospel Jesus preached. I don't like it...read it twice..and personally, it was cotton candy.

I walked into Borders looking for books that might help me find God. I had been a prodigal for 20 years and did not even think to begin with the Bible at the time.
I was searching for truth, for God and desprately hoping that I might find someone, somewhere with some answers.
I bought the PDL, went home that day and began reading Day 1. I believe that the Holy Spirit used that book to begin in me a journey of faith and hope, ministry and love.
I have returned to the Father, my husband has become a Christian and we are both active in several of our church ministries. More importantly we now have a Christian marriage and home.
I know many like to trash the PDL and anything that comes out of Saddleback but the fruit is good and the Word is alive and active.
For us it began with this book.

I actually just got the book in the mail today from a friend. She couldn't believe I had never read it, she had an extra copy and wanted to send it to me. I have heard negative and positive things about it. I am looking forward to seeing what it is about, always keeping in mind that whatever is not scripture is the author's view and to make sure I check the scripture to make sure it lines up with the scripture in my Bible .

I like Rick Warren's approach as Nightline explained it...
SELF HELP+RELIGION.

I like self-help books. I believe they are beneficial whether it be Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, or Rick Warren. In my opinion, whoever says self-help books suck and/or demonic need to go somewhere and sit down (Like most us Black folks say)and stop drinking haterade! Sorry, that's how I feel. No offense to anybody.

Sorry, but I cannot recommend the book. If you actually take the time to look up the passages from the bible he references and to read the surrounding text, he frequently takes biblical passages completely out of context. He frequently chooses translations, especially poor paraphrases (the message), in order to get a passage to say what he wants it to say. So much of the book is just poor use of the Bible I just cannot recommend it. Further it is extremely oversimplistic. There are better ways of getting the message out without the watered-down belief he seems to espouse.

I've never finished the whole book, dropped it halfway through. Too much to stomach, even if it's once per week. Good stuff though, but I won't deny the bad points people have pointed out unless I've looked at the book as closely as they had.

I began reading it like twice. Once just after it came out and then again when my church did a series on it. I was so bored with it that I couldn't finish. He takes forever to get to the point, but I do believe there are some helpful messages in it. I think it could help the "baby Christians" but if you're looking for something of more substance this might not do it for you. It didn't really help me too much. Of course that could be because I already know what my purpose is, so...yeah the ones who don't know what their purpose is I think it could help them. But not the (for lack of a better term) mature Christians who have been saved longer.

I can be such a dunce! Being tired I looked at the title of this book and for whatever reason I was thinking of another book. Half way through reading this thread I realized it and am here to say I voted no but would have voted yes had I had my head screwed on forward. I agree that it has produced much fruit.

It is a simple book but a book that also confirms what we know as Christians. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the basics. I have taught it once and read it through twice.

I would have to read the book over and look at the Bible-it was my cousin's and I had borrowed it. With that said, no matter whom wrote the book, or any book, one thing I disagreed with was the missionary chapters in the book. I don't believe in missionary work.
