I thought I'd balance out all the threads about sex with one for those who value purity. Do you wear a purity ring? Would you wear one?

And if you do have one, please feel free to share a picture of it!

interesting idea..my friend Shawna was actually gonna buy me a random ring but I dont know if I could just use that. It's weird, I am 18 and most of my friend's are younger than me and there not virgin's. I'm like the only one who still is but I dont feel ashamed about that or anything. I don't want a relationship just to have sex, I'm more of a person who want's to just cuddle and for someone to always be by my side.

I never had one. I honestly find them pretentious and confusing.
Maybe it's because of the lack of "Christian culture" where I live.
I saw a 18 year old wearing one for the first time in my life last summer.
I asked her when she got married she was like "Huh?" and then I pointed out her left hand ring...

Nobody really wears them around here.

With the culture that we live in, we just jump to that conclusion right away without even giving it a second thought.

My sentiment entirely..

I never had understood the obsession with virginity and purity pledges.. when one can simply just not be having sex without insisting on making a song and dance out of it.

Well it's very important to those who have pledged to remain a virgin until marriage. I don't understand how people are so free with their sexuality. I couldn't possibly allow myself to be that close and intimate with a person unless I was truly in love with them.

To each their own I guess. If you don't value it, that's your thing. But please don't mock those who do. And the purity ring has more to do with a pact and commitment with God to remain a virgin much like a wedding ring is a pact and commitment to your spouse and God. It's the same thing.

Maybe it works for people who need dodads to remember to do the right thing when they're struggling with it? Like when I was doing the whole no complaints study I had that stupid purple bracelet to remind me.


I guess I just don't see why you want a ring. There are several reasons I could speculate here (Like above).

I mean as long as it actually serves a purpose for the person wearing it other than being like the orphan annie super secret decoder ring.

And I would happily agree it is madness, not my scene at all.

Call me old fashioned.. but the whole lack of a wedding ring should be your sign, rather than a fashion statement that started in the 90s.

No I don't think it'd be a reminder type thing. As I said above, I think it's more making a commitment to God as you would make a commitment to your spouse and wear a wedding ring. I mean, do you need a wedding ring to remember you're married to your husband? No. But it's a symbol of your commitment.

Maybe have it as a necklace to avoid confusion?
I personally wouldn't have one, but if someone does then I understand. I think mostly its cute when someone who is a teenagers wears it, but above 22ish, I don't know.
