  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

^ My thought is that they are a reminder not to let your mind and/or heart get caught up in the sexually charged world we live in. I don't have one and don't have plans to get one, but I can understand why people wear them. I, myself, where a ring with Jeremiah 29:11 printed on it to remind me His plans for my are not finished yet. I don't wear it thinking I'm the only one He has plans for, so I'm sure many people who wear purity rings wear them as a reminder for themselves, nothing more. Just the same as wearing a cross. Some, of course, do wear them in a prideful way. Just a thought.

My friend just emailed me this article. I know it's over a year old, but it still shares some interesting perspectives on the "waiting" challenge and purity issue

I don’t wait anymore. | Grace for the road

And that is awesome! Yes, life is not about waiting. Life isn't about marriage or sex. Life is about living now by trusting God Jesus to give us life forever as a gift--to love and trust God and one another by depending on him. If marriage and sex is part of that, great, if not, great too.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, there's a girl I like who wears a purity ring, I don't mind that, I like her and I wouldn't mind waiting. But she changed her ring for this one with this weird symbol on it, does it means something?

She used to wear the old one on the right hand and she wears this on the left one. I don't want to ask her about it but I'd like to know if the symbol on the heart means something...

Thanks in advance if you know :)

Purity ring? You mean that's actually a thing?

I always thought it was a joke...
Nope. There's a pledge and everything. Some extreme communities have a father/daughter "Purity Ball" where she promises to him that she won't give her body away until marriage, and he puts the ring on her finger...ick.

Yikes! Yeah, that is a bit extreme.

I believe Jessica Simpson did that with her dad, freaky!.

I myself am to far gone to have a purity ring but I did get a chip at Celebrate Recovery to help remind me not do it again, does that count.

My main objection to purity rings is that they look too much like engagement or wedding rings. If I think an otherwise attractive woman is already taken, then I won't make an effort to get to know her better. Granted, I prefer to be friends or at least friendly first, and not many women in my dating age range wear them, but such a first impression can throw me for a loop.

That being said, it's probably better than when engaged or married women don't wear rings.

I'm betting a purity ring is absolutely no deterrent to 'love' them and leave them another notch on my bedpost types.

Another example of stupidity. Get a ring that will dissuade all the decent guys so the horndog scumbags have a clear field.

What finger are you supposed to wear it on? Better not wear it on the ring finger or folks gonna think you're married and you won't be getting dates.

Most girls that I knew that wore them in high school wore them on their left ring finger, I was assumed it was somehow symbolic because it was also a promise involving marriage.

I've never worn one, but I believe it's the right ring finger, just like a Claddagh ring.

I just did a search, every source said Left ring finger.

Your choice makes a lot more sense, but then purity rings don't make sense.
