American Rye question...which brands do you often find when buying alcohol? A friend of mine is visiting Florida next week and offered to bring me back something to try so I asked her to grab me a bottle of Jim Beam Rye and Wild Turkey Rye believing it was most popular and easy to find.

Is it?

Picked up a bottle of Alberta Springs rye (age 10 years) tonight. I'll give it the Kentucky chew tomorrow afternoon. If it tastes anything like Alberta Premium (aged 5 years) or Dark Horse, it should be good. The reviews say it's a good sipping whisky...we'll see.

On a side note: The Windsor Canadian that Osage enjoys was distilled at the same distillery as the Alberta Premium, Alberta Springs and Dark Horse. I have no doubt Windsor Canadian is good stuff.

it was ok
but i thought all rum was aged in oak barrels?
well all dark rum anyways

I have to admit I'm not a rum drinker, too sweet for me, like sipping sugar water. The marketing got me. I had no idea how rum was aged.

^_^

(no, I haven't been drinkin')

I tried Jim Beam Black recently. It was good.

Osage (O sage of great wisdom),

How does it differ from regular Beam?

I tried the Alberta Springs rye, amazing! Very smooth with and pepper like. It was a bit like a malty scotch without the heady wave you often get from it, it's more spice and all over your tongue.

Regular Beam is 4 years old. Black label is 8. It is drastically more smoth and elegant. It has a unique flavor.

I do not know a lot about whiskey what do you guys recommend?

Start with a good blended, time tested scotch like Teacher's Highland Cream. It hurt your wallet and is excellent for sipping.

Others:

Jim Beam (white label)
Grant's blended scotch
Wild Turkey 101 (my Fav)
