  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Smoking a pipe with vanilla maple tobacco while sipping some JD on ice.

Nice. I've read good reviews of vanilla maple.

Doing nothing

Sometimes that all you can do.

Drinking coffee and playing my guitar. Can't wait to trade in my electric for a mandolin.

I have a mando and love it, can't play it well, but I do like to flat pick it. What type of music do you want to play?

Bluegrass and southern blues. I used to play rock and metal, but over the past couple years I've shifted towards acoustic. I'm losing my taste for rock and beginning to love the blues, bluegrass, folk, and jazz. And on the plus side, there's this girl at my church that wants me to teach her the mandolin once I get it.

I had some Australian sherry last night by a winery called Emu. It was inexpensive but tasted great. I look forward to trying their Amontillado. The stuff I normally buy is $12 bucks a bottle the Emu is $8.

I really enjoy hard cider...I think it was recommended in this thread. It's a good summer drink.

Licorice and fire? Is that good?

Here's what I'm drinking...from Russia, with love.

I'm also picking out Sugar Baby on the banjo and cardinal seemed to enjoy the sound so I took a quick vid.

I would love to try Absinthe but the stuff in Canada is priced way too high. It would be a bummer to drop $50 or more on a micky only to find out you don't like it.

I hear ya brother! My wife wanted some for our anniversary (we were gonna order some online) when I found this place that just opened up. Even this one was more then we usually pay, but since we've never had real commercial stuff (the "home made" stuff by friends is nothing like the real stuff!), I figured it would be worth it to at least try since we can now get it. The problem is, it's really tasty! Maybe I can find a cheaper one that's still good....

But if you ever have a windfall by the grace of God, it's pretty good if you ask me. Very earthy and herbal, and somewhat sweet without being too sweet. Hopefully since it's legal now, more quality inexpensive stuff will start coming out. If I find one, I'll let ya know.

I've had Absinthe before. It tasted like liquorice and fire.

Yeah, it does have a liquorice flavor. Not sure about the fire. Maybe it wasn't diluted enough--the stuff's like 130 proof and is made to be diluted. Did they light the sugar on fire?

I hope to try la fée verte soon. Mostly out of historical interest (art history being one of my passions). But I'll go to a bar that serves it in the proper French method (never light the sugar on fire), rather than paying $65 or more for a bottle plus all the proper apparatus. If you have netflix instant view there's a decent documentary about the history of the drink that has recently been added.
